Oulton Park 23/25 August 2014

Post by Keith Clements »

Richard Gane and John Arnold confirmed yesterday that they will be racing the Jup in the FISCAR series. Roger Whiteside/Richard Thorne may also be there in their Jup which hopefully is now run in after its tour around Le Mans circuit! It should be quite a battle between the two of them.

Doug Rath, who races his Jowett in Australia, will be visiting with his family. Why not come along to see Jupiters doing what they were designed to do.

Request from Greg Jackson.

Hi . Me and Tony Jackson be coming in my Jupiter's and i think others Jowett's, do you have a space we can all park up near to paddock, it would be good to see all Jowett's together and fly the flag. Greg Jackson.

Hi Greg,

I have not organised anything for the event, but if you want to contact organisers please do so and let us know by JowettTalk. Having not been to the event before I have no idea what facilities are, or how they organise car clubs or classic cars that attend the event. I doubt if any space is available in (or near) the paddock, but if you get there early (like on Thursday or Friday) then there may be something that can be done. This is what I did at Silverstone but on Saturday it was not possible.

To all.
If you are going then let us know and keep in contact be email, JowettTalk or mobile phone. Things may get organised. :D

I have been in touch with the organisers and they can provide vehicle passes for us to go to the Club Area next to the Paddock. However, I do need your vehicle details now to get the passes. Note that practice on Saturday and racing is on Sunday and Monday. I will be there Saturday.
I may even be able to get entry tickets so please contact me now. 07973850842

I read the Oulton Park Website which has the dates incorrect as Saturday is the 23rd when there is practice. Racing is on Sunday and Monday.
So far 4 spectating Jowetts in attendance.
This is the correct website.

I do not know when the Richard's FISCAR series races will be, but I am seeing him in an hour.

People should contact me if intending going in a Jowett to the event as I may be able to reserve space. Contact Sasha at goldcup@msv.com to get the free pass for the driver only and Jowett into the event. It will be too much trouble getting tickets to people if passes are sent to me. They should mention me and Jowett when contacting Sasha. They need to give car make, model and reg number.

Other people in the Jowett will need to purchase their tickets. You can do this on-line.

Spoke to Richard. He is qualifying (hopefully) on Saturday and racing ONLY on Sunday. Either day is good as I like qualifying because you get closer to the cars. But then racing is what this is all about and duels on the track are what you pay your money to see.

Timetableis here.
Race 10: Fiscar
Qualifying Saturday 16:05 – 16:25
Race Sunday17:55 – 18:25

Your interest in the forum: Jupiter JWS 95 now in my ownership, belonged to my father since the early sixties and has been restored over the past 5 years, still work to do! I recently sold my Javelin to free up garage space for the Jup. I have over the past few years had a 1931 Austin 7, 1964 Herald & 1970 Saab 95 V4. Regards, Rick.

Hi Keith, I have been in touch with Sasha from the Gold Cup about displaying the Jup on Sunday and unfortunately got a negative response as they are apparently maxed out with entries (if everyone turns up). So it looks like the general parking area.
Regards,
Rick

I travelled up on Friday to stay with Tim Ralph who 46 years ago let me rebuild my Jup engine in his living room after the bearings went on its way back from purchase. Tim recalled how we struggled to separate the block halves for a day. Then I went into the library to find a drawing of the engine and returned to locate the bolt under the balance pipe. Ah well you learn...

After a great drive in the sunshine Tim and I arrived in the middle of a downpour to find Craig and Glenys Ainge and Les and Nancy White in a good spot overlooking a lot of the circuit around Lakeside and the Chicane. We had a lot of interest and Les was in club sales mode most of the time, giving out leaflets and old Jowetteers.

Richard Gane and Dave Harris arrived in the afternoon and went straight to scrutineering before the qualifying at 16:00hrs. From memory I think Richard started 7th out of 11 on the grid. Anyhow a better position was not possible with Sprites , Elites, Healey, Astons and Jags making up the grid.

Since Richard's race was not until 17:25 on Sunday Tim and I left a little late to find they would not let me into the display area that I had carefully reserved the previous evening. We found the lovely Jups of Tony and Greg Jackson a short distance away leaving the display area vacant all day. In the race Richard did well and was pushing hard on the first lap , so much so that he put two wheels on the grass at Lodge. Subsequent laps were more accurate and lap times improved up to the best of 2:27. I think 5 secs better than qualifying but the track was a little damp then.

Pictures to follow.

Lodge corner where, this time around, Richard put two wheels on the grass.

This was the fourth time around after the mandatory pit stop where Richard managed to keep it (nearly) on the black stuff.
