No Reverse

Why not tell us about your car (start with a picture) and say what you have done with it; either restoring or using it over the years. Restoration of particular parts is of special interest. Club members can have their space on in their Personal Album to do this.

No Reverse

Post by Mike Allfrey »

G'dday,

We were touring Scotland in the Jupiter back in 1963 and had had just had a romantic interlude, watching the sunset from Elgol on the Isle of Skye.

The Jupiter was parked with the front wheels towards the sea, with a drop in front. After the sun had set, it was time to head back to our hotel in Portree. There was no reverse gear! And this in a car that we did not yet know very well. I couldn't drive forward because of the drop, so it was out and investigate - the ball joint at the selector change link had a broken spring clip. The car knew when lack of reverse was most inconvenient!

A repair was made using a piece of copper wire that was carried in the car. It got us back to Bristol OK, where I was able to get a new joint off the shelf from City Motors.

A sunset never to be forgotten!

Mike Allfrey.
