Gallery Remote has been available for many years but for most people it is too comprehensive as it should give you the ability to not only upload files but also move, reorganise, sort, annotate and delete them. However, the implementation on JowettGallery only allows upload at the moment. Its greatest benefit is that it also can automatically resize images before uploading them.
It would be useful for those with large albums with sub-albums and thus the curators of the National areas of the Gallery and Legacy project helpers! So once those people come forward I will try to implement the other facilities.
It does take a few steps to install. Details can be found here and you might like to try it if you have a MAC or Linux operating system http://codex.galleryproject.org/Gallery_Remote:Bundled
1. install Java and this is best done by saving when downloading, rather than running the installer directly.
http://www.java.com/en/download/ie_manual.jsp?locale=en
As I said 'save as' to a folder and then run the file you just downloaded. Remember to untick the Mcaffee crap.
2.install the jpg translator executable which will need Administrator privilege on your computer.
http://sylvana.net/jpegcrop/jpegtran.exe
The jpegtran.exe executable needs to be placed in the PATH on your system. Your best bet is to copy it to C:\Windows\System32 (or C:\WINNT\system32 on older NT-based systems).
3. install imagemagick to do all the resizing
http://www.imagemagick.org/script/binar ... hp#windows
In most cases choose the default version ImageMagick-6.8.7-4-Q16-x86-dll.exe and use HTTP download. That is this one http://www.imagemagick.org/download/bin ... 86-dll.exe
You can use the 'run' and self install this.
Gallery Remote (1.4.2-b24 and later) should automatically locate ImageMagick (if the reg.exe utility is available, which is the case on W2k and XP). If it doesn't find it automatically, you need to edit the Gallery Remote configuration file imagemagick/im.properties (inside the Gallery Remote installation directory) and change the value of imConvertPath to point to the convert.exe executable in the installation of ImageMagick. I have never had to do this.
4. install Gallery Remote and configure it.
Do this by choosing 'Gallery remote' from the tabs when you choose the 'Add Items' Album action in JowettGallery. Then choose 'Run Gallery Remote immediately using Java Webstart'
5. Configuring Gallery Remote
You need to set the URL, username, password.
Choose 'Options', 'Preferences', 'URLs', ........You should see http://jowett.net/gallery
Choose 'Modify' Then add your Username and password and click 'OK'
remember click on the image to make it full size so you can read the text!
YOU SHOULD NOW SEE THE ROOT ALBUM in the left explorer pane SO CLICK THE +
You can add pictures, drag and drop files or folders into the middle pane and upload existing items from the albums, but you cannot at the moment do much else such as annotate , sort, remove, rotate or move .
