Jowett Timeline of Models

Post by Jack »

I am working on something at the moment, and could really do with a list of all the Jowett models in chronological order.

Does such a thing exist already? Or can someone advise? The internet has various lists, many of which seem to be variable in accuracy, because they can't all be correct!

Particularly difficult for me at the moment are the prewar cars, so many models within a fairly short period of time is creating a challenge getting everything in the right order.

Thanks in advance,

Jack.

Have you looked at Appendix 1 of "The Complete Jowett History" on pages 207 to 213?

I was going to say the same thing. Its the most complete single source and as far as I know was compiled using original catalogues, factory records etc. It is worth noting that model names did not come in until the black prince was announced in 1929 and that model names were discontinued for the 1937 model year when the 8 & 10 using common body & chassis were introduced. prior to '29 models were identified more by a descriptive title eg short 2, long 2, short saloon, long coupe, sports etc etc usualy with standard and delux versions and up to 1932 a choice on some models of coachbuilt or fabric body.

A sort of timeline!

At one time I was going to do a procession of cars to follow it; but the webpage failed the readability tests that the new jowett.org site conforms to.

Then I thought about using Macromedia's Flash; but glad I did not as that is also about to be dropped from support.

Keeping up with the web browsers and also predicting what will last is a dilemma.

Something for Moises Jnr to think about?
