This is a really good read, especially for someone who has driven nearly all these roads in a Jowett in the same way. One thing to consider is how bad these roads were then. Only one of the passes, the Gavia , bears any resemblence to how it was. They are now tarmac with armco. To wear out a set of tyres in 1500 miles is going some.
