A BIG opportunity for you to enjoy yourself.
We have been invited to be part of the Goodwood Revival, 13-15 September 2013, and need your support to present the club to 150000 classic car enthusiasts. We need volunteers who will be amply rewarded with the best three days of racing classic cars, period spectacle, music and joviality on this planet.
1. We need drivers who will taxi the famous a mile or two from Lord March's stately home to the circuit in their Jowett. Petrol is provided. Get to meet some world champions and some very interesting celebrities.
2. We need people in period costume and some cars for a display at the circuit. We need help designing and setting up the display around the cars.
3. We need people with commercial vehicles either for static display or for doing some errands as part of the entertainment.
4. We need cars that have a sporting history or fit into a theme to go around the track.
Note that those taking part will need to commit themselves and their vehicles for three days of fun. What a hardship! In return you will get tickets for the greatest show on earth, pitches for motor home or tent where you can continue to be part of a great event and chance to have an unforgettable experience.
This is the greatest marketing opportunity the club has ever had. Please volunteer to be part of it. Please send photos of your car and what you would be interested in doing before or during the event to Keith Clements and phone 07973850842.
Do not delay as I need to respond to the organisers with details. You will regret it if you do not!

Well its 90 years of the JCC isn't it next year? how about some kind of regeneration campaign with getting together some of the younger members to attend perhaps with cars. Though having never been to goodwood not quite sure what its all about apart from the period costume and racing. Just a few ideas off the top of my head. Hopefully attracting new recruits?

Alan - There are many plans in the offering in order to celebrate the 90 years of the club - this will be giving all members the chance to join in wide range of events planned whilst also raising the clubs profile - attracting new members and especially younger members - in order to organise / present these events we need help from the membership - even if it's just turning up with a Jowett - the plans are just starting to be announced:
Our 2013 Annual Weekend will be a very special event - see the details & updates on JT & November Jowetteer
Goodwood - Details are coming together and are also being announced - this is annother fantastic event and is not to be missed - this is classic & vintage motoring royality - for the club to be invited here is equal to the JCC committee playing Germany in the world cup at Wembely and winning !
There will be a record number of Jowetts displayed at the NEC in November where the Leeds City College Javelin restoration will be launched
None of these events can happen without the membership getting involved - so please feel free to join in !
See you all soon - Chris

Alan, Now here is a challenge....
Not sure what your definition of 'younger' is
but how about contacting all those you think are 'younger' and see what you can come up with. At Goodwood there are many sets of people who do 'stupid' things, by dressing up and acting a part. You could play-act a 30's day out around the cars. Imagine you were at the races 60 years ago and were 20 something. How about a picnic and contemporary music on the radio or period record player. Look at some of the period photos for inspiration.
We can reuse the props and actors for many events next year from Goodwood , Basingstoke or even your local show or pageant. All as part of the 90 year Celebration.
Start networking....

Now theres the thing, how many are using the cars on the road? Although you were looking for commecials
How many long fours are around? Didnt jowett have fairly large collecton of long four police cars? back in the 20s Perhaps cops and robbers haha though I think this idea may have been done to death? already. Just floating
Along with the jupiters and javelins for their racing acheivements.
I know minis had some union jack theme for their celebration at goodwood a few years back?

Not just looking for commercials. We also need Jowetts from each decade, some for static display, some for cavalcade but definitely for taxiing the VIPs.
How about yours as a Taxi and you as a Taxi driver?

Re: A BIG opportunity for you to enjoy yourself.
Dear Keith,
That all sounds pretty good. As you know Sue and I are avid Goodwood Revival fans and am sure that anyone who hasn’t been would become a devotee. To have Jowett Car Club as a centrepiece would be an incredible achievement and receive tremendous publicity and cudos for the mark.
We would be happy to assist and be involved at all levels and Sue who is very artistic at design and display material has said she would be happy to help.
I am sure that I could have both the Javelin and the Jupiter at the event for all 3 days and whatever day needed for setting up. The Javelin is as we know perfect for the role of Taxi and I am happy for her to be used for that. It may be possible to share the Taxi driving with other JCC members who might like to have the opportunity of using my car.
I would love to do anything on the circuit. The Jupiter did do quite a lot of Historic Rallying as you well know.
I do hope that we get a very high level of support from as many Jowett owners as possible. Dressing in period is a must for Goodwood and even I who hate dressing up have managed to do so and enjoy it.
You have our full support.

Re: A BIG opportunity for you to enjoy yourself.
Sorry my last post was a bit wayward. Have no idea why I put commercials in. But yes count me in for a taxi duty. As long as the vip doesn't mind running around in an oily rag car..hopefully adds to the fun, well it does to me anyways. Though i think you had me at the period clothing. Sounds like fun!

Re: A BIG opportunity for you to enjoy yourself.
Alan,
You probably got it from point 3 in Keith's original post - there is definitely a need for commercials at Goodwood, but I think your car will be best used for moving people around
Who knows, by then you might be able to tell people they are taking a ride in the Classic Car of the Year 2012!
For those wondering about accommodation for the Goodwood weekend, as a very popular event with thousands of people attending it is normally very difficult to secure hotel rooms without a lot of notice. Luckily we have found a very good pub, which does very good food, and very good drinks, with very friendly staff, which is half a mile from Goodwood, and they have facilities and a large field and carpark available to us. We have in the past taken our motorhome and the tents, and may have a motorhome or two available, so accommodation should be no problem and extremely affordable for all.
Jack.

Re: A BIG opportunity for you to enjoy yourself.
Please note that you need to book WELL in advance, so you need to commit yourselves. This year the Revival had many good food and drink outlets open until 10:30. So the problem in previous years was aleviated. Thus staying in the free camping and motorhome park for the many Jowetteers who will be volunteers at this event is a good choice. Hotel accomodation is difficult but many of our Jowett members who are also GRCC members have this sorted as they do book well ahead.

Goodwood Revival 2013 13- 16th Sept
Nineteen drivers are signed up to taxi the VIPs in Jowetts around the Lord March's estate.
We still need more Jowett people along so please let me know if you can come, on what days and if you will bring a Jowett. I may me able to give you a free ticket and possibly a car park pass.
If you want to camp then also let me know as currently we have 10 Jowett tents so we are set for a wild party!
The decision day will be Monday when I will know what we have available.

Interesting photo of a certain Javelin and mention of the period taxi fleet on the Goodwood website: http://www.goodwood.co.uk/revival/event ... icles.aspx
Only a couple of days to go now, luckily my driving goggles and bowler hat have arrived safely, and Sportsdirect have done a nice job of supplying the warmest sleeping bag on earth for £14.
Roll on the weekend!
Jack.

I think everybody is now home safe after an eventful and enjoyable weekend. A few photos from the weekend will hopefully find their way to the Gallery, as well as a full "trip report" for the Jowetteer.
Firstly a very interested Murray Walker gets a lift from one Amy Clements, Geoff McAuley doing the doorhandle duties:

And also the Commemorative Handbook from the event, this details the cars, drivers and a bit of a guide for the uninitiated (which was very much the majority, some passengers had heard of Jowetts, but many just hopped in and asked "what car have I just got into?!" - drivers were all happy to share some interesting facts about the company, the club and their particular car, and everyone was exceptionally interested.

A BIG success
The opportunity was converted into a big success by the enthusiasm and dedication of all the JCC members who made the effort to get a Jowett there, keep the cars running throughout the weekend, brave the weather that was unusually inclement, don their period dress and act in the style expected at the Revival. Above all, the enjoyment they were having lifted the spirits of all who chose to ride in a Jowett, instead of a Maserati or Audi or even a Rolls Royce that were also on offer. This was reflected in a visitors' book that Peter Pfister handed to his passengers to record a view of their journey by Jowett.
Here are the Jowett taxi Drivers assembled for duty on Friday at 8:30 a.m. Note the name badges made by Jack who also produced a handbook to show guests taking a ride in a Jowett.

Here some of the Jowetts waiting for Lord March's guests next to his car and the alternative RR transport.

The Jowetts at the Kennels waiting to take guests back to the circuit after lunch.
