We had our AGM last month at The Swan, Tockington. All the Officers stay the same: John Morgan Chairman, Danuta Morgan Secretary, and David Morris is our new Treasurer; Eric Firth is now our Section rep., having taken over from Peter Holden.
Our Christmas lunch is at The Beaufort Arms Coaching Inn and Restaurant, High Street, Raglan; we will have a lovely room there with lots of space, and the menu looks delicious - and it’s only £14.25 for three courses, or £11.25 for two courses. If you would like to come, please get in contact with me and I shall be glad to read out the menu to you; the date is Sunday 15th January and all are welcome - hope you can come.
There will be no monthly meeting in December as the pub gets very busy, so the next time we all meet will be at the Christmas Lunch. John has had his hip operation and is doing quite well; he has had a little setback, so it might mean another operation, but we are hoping that the surgeon will say that it might right itself. David Morris has just had an eye operation and is due for another one in December; 1 would just like to say ‘thank you’ for taking on the Treasurer’s post. I have nearly got all the paperwork for the accounts, so we will be up and running very soon.
My brother came over from Australia to see me after eight years, and I’m very glad to tell you that he is joining the Club and hopefully buying a Jupiter. Eric and Jenny are going to the Australian rally, so my brother is going to put them up for a couple of nights; it’s funny how things happen (it’s the power of the Club you know).
Well that just leaves me to say ‘Happy Christmas and New Year’, a good and healthy one - God bless, and take care.
-Danuta Morgan
Bristol Restoration Show
Sunday 13th November saw us at the Bristol Restoration Show. Owing to his hip surgery, John Morgan was unable to give his planned presentation hut he hopes to give it at the full show on 28/29th January. David Morris did attend the show but was unable to give his “standbyâ€

Last month my report went into cyberspace somewhere - sorry about that (see page
5 -Ed.). So, just to recap on last month, we had the Bristol Classic Show at Shepton
Mallet and it was well attended even though it was extremely cold. John Prescott brought
along the new flags and they did look really nice - it made our little cold corner very posh.
John Morgan did a restoration display: he made a Jupiter dashboard, and John P explained
on the microphone what John M was doing; that also had a few hiccups, but all was well
in the end. We got home on Sunday night in our Bradford and it took two days to thaw
out. David Morris was also glad to get home; I would like to thank you David for all you
did at the rally - you always organise it so well.
This month’s meeting was the first since last November; it was well attended, and I
had to tell everyone that unfortunately Max Henderson died in the week before. He was
a member of our Section for a time a few years ago, and we still kept in touch; that’s how
Obi got his Javelin, and as you know he has also passed away. Last year, Obi and Max
became very good friends; Paul Beaumont came down to see Max as well. On a good
note, John and I have bought Obi's Javelin, so hopefully you will be seeing it out again on
the summer rallies.
On the 23rd April we are having our meeting at the Swan at Tockington, because it’s
the day that we must drive all our classics - even to the supermarket. It is on this day in
1900 that 64 cars set out from London on the first day of the Thousand Mile Trial, so I
hope as many of you as possible can come. Lunch is about 12.30 and it costs about £7.95
(carvery). For this, and any other event you would like to come to, please get in touch
with me. Listed below are some dates for your diaries:
May 7th - ‘Wheel Nuts 2006’: Stroud.
May 26/30 - NATIONAL RALLY
June 16/18 - Lister Tyndale Rally: North Nibley.
June 25th - Bromley Pageant.
July 2nd - Skewen Motor Club.
August 27th - Clevedon Flower Show.
September 27th - Beaulieu Autojumble.
September 16/17 - Tredegar House, Newport.
October 21/22 - Malvern.
November 12th - Restoration Show at Shepton Mallet.
Well, that’s all for now - take care and God bless... -Danuta Morgan
Danuta raises an important point which deserves some emphasis here - a
blush of shame mantles the editorial cheek for having neglected to mention it earlier.
‘Drive It Day’ on the 23rd April is an initiative by the FBHVC to support an ongoing
campaign to raise public awareness of the historic vehicle movement. After all, says
the FBHVC, “What’s the point in fighting to uphold our freedom to use old vehicles if
we don’t make the best possible use of it?â€
