Will be interesting to see if it sell, but hope it does. I think Bonhams could have put a few more pictures of the car on the site such as interior and engine bay. Very poor description. Suspect it is in a poor state , dry stored or not. If anyone can go and see it and post abeteer description we would have more chance helping a remote bidder.

Re: Javelin for auction
For a dry stored vehicle there sees to be a lot of green corrosion on the brass bits, and it looks like quite a lot of surface rust on the 'lump'.
Still, if it finds a good 'home' I'm sure the potential is there.
They don't make these any more you know.
PS What does the suffix 'D' in the engine number mean?

Re: Javelin for auction
Unless it comes with £250 in the glovebox, that car is not worth £300. Not sure who is doing the valuations, but a couple of phone calls should have revealed the bottom book price on a Javelin in this condition.
I get the feeling it won't sell, and that the owners will let the scrapman come and collect. Unless it has a particularly interesting and unknown history (perhaps a very very famous owner) then better cars are being broken for spares at the moment.
Its unfortunate, but it is the reality - if a concours good Javelin is worth £7.5K, a car in this condition is worth more weighed in. This is one reason why the value of Jowetts is an important thing for us to consider for the future - the car has to be of a certain value new in order for anyone other than the committed restorer to consider a project in poor condition.
Jack.

That would seem to be an engineless special bodied Jupiter next to it.
Who was the body builder and what chassis number?

Re: Javelin for auction
Looks in better condition than my Javelin!!
With that registration number ( A nice Oxford number issued in Jan 1952) I bet it will sell for more than the estimate, particularly as it has a V5.

Well spotted Phillip
Last time I saw it it was in an open sided dutch barn with a load of stuff arround it. Not necessary rubbish!! The owner was talking about getting going. Sorry to see little progress. Still I know he has other commitments.

Re: Javelin for auction
Better pictures are now on auction listing, but you can only truly judge be examining a car yourself. I agree a buyer is going to see the number plate as an encouragement.I hope when restored they do not sell the number altough it might return some of the costs. You see so many cars without original numbers now, some I admit in far worse condition than this Javelin.I often wonder how they got an Mot to enable a transfer. I think sometime ago I read that yuo would be able get the DVLA to make a number non transferable for ever.Is this possible?.

Re: Javelin for auction
many numbers have been transferred with dodgy mot's. I don't know whether the new computerised mot system will make this less likely or even impossible- I suspect not. I once went after a Javelin which had a nice number. the car was a complete rust bucket, but had been a Monte Carlo entrant in it's past. Within about 30 seconds it had reached £1600.The number soon appeared for sale and is currently on a jaguar.
I also heard something about making numbers non transferable, but was lead to believe that it could not be done, which is a pity.
I am hoping to attend the auction

Re: Javelin for auction
Interesting observations on the Bonhams Javelin.,SFC 8. I think Bonhams have mistakenly transposed the engine and chassis numbers. The Chassis must be E2PD22380 D, and the other number must be the engine probably the original engine . An article in Jowetteer for April 1987 page 19 described a Javelin no UFC 6 ( E2PE 24373 -- not E3 as in the article ) and said it was supplied by North Oxford Garage Ltd, Banbury Road. UFC 6 is in the 2008 Register as are some other xFC numbers, but not SFC8, so North Oxford must have been able to keep these low number registrations for their customers, presumably as a Jowett Agent.
To transfer the number I believe an MOT is needed which would imply quite a lot of restoration by the look of it !
Bob Lintott E2PD 22752 D ( not PE as in the register!)

Re: Javelin for auction
To transfer the registration number from a vehicle it must indeed have a valid / current MOT, however the number may have been made non transferable by DVLA - just because the vehicle comes with a V5 will not guarantee that it can be transferred - looking at similar single digit registration numbers for sale the number should be worth between £3 - £5k on the open market - looking at the cars condition you could easily equal this amount in the purchase of the vehicle and getting it through it's test - let alone any form of cosmetic restoration.
