Included with this report is a comprehensive list of the year`s events as complied by Ian
and Alan Benewith: please note that entries for Ardingley will be limited for 2006.
Prior to the recent Executive meeting I received a letter from Colin Durham requesting
that I raise the question of web site-only references on Jowetteer adverts. Those present
will testify that I fought a valiant battle on behalf of the large number of members who do
not have access to computers, and as a final shot I beg to point out that web-only
advertisements not only frustrate such members, but also seriously limit the response, as
the reality is that there are still a lot of us living in the old world where Jowetts come from
and telephone lines prevail.
Brave words indeed! And I agree with every one. This is a vexing problem that isn’t going
to go away - it’s all in the name of ‘progress’... Actually I had my ear bent not long ago
by an indignant member who wanted to know how he could get in touch with a web-only
advertiser in these pages who wanted to buy a vintage Jowett. Our less than gruntled
friend had one for sale - but didn’t know where to address his offer. For my part, I include
such adverts in good faith (they usually come from jowett.talk via Keith Clements) - and
I can do no more than that. -Ed.
Webmaster response. The advert in question was only submitted after repeated attempts to obtain contact details from the person. They had their reasons for not revealing such details. As was pointed out a visit to the library or friend with the capability is all that is required. Just like it was when everyone did not have a telephone, you had to go to the phone box!
