“THE 10th EXMOOR RUT –Sunday 2nd October 2011”
The 10th EXMOOR RUT, a non-competitve Autumn Scenic Tour of Exmoor of approx. 100 miles, in which owners of ALL Classic Cars are invited to take part on Sunday 2nd October 2011, is organised by the Healey Drivers Club in their effort to assist in raising funds for the BBC Radio Devon AIR AMBULANCE APPEAL towards a new helicopter.
Starting from the South Devon Railway’s BUCKFASTLEIGH STATION, using all metalled roads, it is possible that some of the roads included may be unclassified, with passing places and steep hills, presenting some unsurpassed westcountry scenery and flavour of motoring in the 20’s & 30’s. This is a leisurely tour incorporating stunning views of Dartmoor, Exe Valley leading to Dulverton, before ascending onto Exmoor and Exford. Lunch stop is own choice of picnic or a Pub/Hotel lunch of which there are plenty to choose from, before dropping down to Porlock, offering some panoramic views (weather permitting) with the potential of seeing the Exmoor’s famous Red Deer gathering their ‘harems’ prior to the “Rut,” together with seascapes and, hopefully, South Wales across the Bristol Channel.
At Porlock, an optional chance to view a Classical Car Collection at the Doverhay Garage (at a concessionary fee to entrants). Afterwards perhaps a visit to Porlock Weir and to climb Porlock Hill, one of the MCC Test Hills (of Land’s End fame) to Lynmouth via R D Blackmore’s Lorna Doone Country. Leaving Lynmouth to pass thru’ the Lyn & Myrtleberry Cleaves, again with an optional stop at Woody Bay Station for a trip on the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway (concessionary fare made available to entrants) and then onto the finish point at The Old Station House Inn at Blackmore Gate, Kentisbury, North Devon for a Cream Tea.
Each entrant will receive an entry pack containing Route Book, Rally Plaque, vouchers for Coffee/Tea & Biscuits at the Start and Cream Tea at the Finish points(together with concessionary vouchers for the Classic Car Collection at Porlock and Lynton & Barnstaple Railway at Woody Bay).
