I think we've seen this one before recently on ebay or somewhere else online. Anyone remember where and whether it sold? It might have been a different can in primer being sold, but it looks familiar.

At £1,400 it seems like sensible money but not exactly a massive bargain. Perhaps the seller will negotiate a bit to get it sold.

This was on e bay recently as a auction but took no bids - odd enough the current listing has now been withdrawn - the car has stood outside for sometime - and I would question the engine rebuild that the vendor states has been carried out - why is the oil filler cap missing then ?? - that will do the world of good to the engine. The car in the background of the image is not another Javelin - it's a 40's Alvis saloon.

Hi
just to say I bought this one, driving past rear of car lot and saw this looking dejected and bought it on the spot, got it much less than this price and intend to restore as an everyday driver, have only worked on old MGs before but looking forward to the challenge

Welcome to the forum - have you joined the club yet? I'd imagine you'll want access to the spares section for a project of that scale!

Anything you need, just ask.

If you can, please post a few photos of the car, perhaps a bit of an intro about you as well.

At least with your experience of MGs you'll be handy dealing with rust :D

thank you
have already joined the owners club
I am in the position of having a large garage/workshop where space is not an issue, have restored several mgs and a 74 lancia fulvia HF so whilst the task is not small am looking forward to the task--slightly unhinged??
from talking to the garage owner it would seem that the previous owner ---one of only two---had started on the restoration and then passed away so it had lain in a garage for a number of years before his widow had sold it on .how it came to be in his car lot i didnt get to the bottom of but the body is all ready in primer and looks to need minmal work its the rest that will take time, all of the chrome work needs doing--anyone recommend someone??--the oil filler cap is missing ,seems it was stolen so hoping there wasnt too much water ingress while it was off,I have turned the engine by hand and it seems to move freely, the interior is completely shot but not fazed by that, will post photos as I progress,
I live in the far north of Scotland, Brora, but even here there are a couple of people who have given offers of help, but no doubt will be looking for assistance here on the forum

just to say the other car in the lot was an old lea francis --already sold-- maybe just as well as I had been looking for a javelin for some time, strange as since I bought this one found out that there was one here in the village only sold a few weeks ago and had never seen it in the area, maybe this was meant to be

You'll fit right in with us Jowett lot, then! :D
all of the chrome work needs doing--anyone recommend someone??--
We needed a reasonable amount of chrome doing for my Jupiter, Jack will no doubt be along to tell you who it was, but I know that the work was good and it was very good value. Trouble is we're based in teh South East so quite a way from you. The Scottish Section will certainly have someone up that end who they use as well.

You'll find that people are happy to help, regardless of distance. When doing a mad dash to get my Jupiter on the road for last year's annual Jowett gathering we had help from literally all around the world.

Do feel free to ask any questions at all, there will be someone on the forum who knows the answer. And on the very rare offchance that they don't, we'll know someone who probably does know.. :)

Welcome to the wonderful world of Jowetteering!

The chromer I have used several times is Premier Plating. I think (but not certain) they will deal with things by mail order, so you could courier things to them and they will send them back to you once complete.

http://www.premier-plating.co.uk/

I have a reasonable relationship with them, and their work is good. If you want to send things to them, I can very easily drop in and inspect any work done before you pay them and have things shipped back to you. It is about 25 mins from my work, so perfect for lunch hour dash to get there and back :)

PM me if you need me to help. I would suggest there are probably chromers in Scotland that are closer to you and can help - Drummond may be able to advise, though I am conscious that Scotland is a very big place!

this weekend will see the car stripped back to a shell and I will get a better understanding of what Ive taken on, still at the exiciting stage and looking forward to the challange

thinking ahead Ive pretty much decided to paint the car in two halves ,,top in cream with the bottom in British racing green which then led me to wonder if I would do the chrome in copper plating instead??????would that be a step to far

Sounds very pretty :) (And of course, as a girl I am only interested in pretty, I have no interest in mechanics or any of that dirty nonsense ;))

Question is, what colour interior would you have?
