Employee Reunion

Post by Forumadmin »

The reunion will be held on Saturday, August 13th at the Bradford Industrial
Museum, Moorside Mills, Moorside Road, Eccleshill, Bradford.
John Stockwell has sent invitations and an s.a.e. to the ex-employees; when
replying to John, please advise the number in your party so that we can assess the
catering requirements.
Keith Wear has sent invitations to all Northern Section members who we don’t
see regularly. Please send your replies to Ian Priestley.
For those attending in a Jowett, please advise its type and the number in your
party - give me a ring on 01274xxxxx. Arrival is from 11.00am onwards, with all in
position by 01.00pm. The event closes at 05.00pm.
As in previous years, refreshments will be provided from the cafe by courtesy
of the Northern Section ladies. Peter Hicken has thought better of retirement, and will
again provide the musical entertainment, while Danuta and John Morgan will bring the
Jowett Shop.
On arrival, you will be provided with refreshment vouchers and a lapel badge.
The raffle is essential in defraying our expenditure, so please bring plenty of prizes and
lots of money; the draw will take place at 04.00pm.
Last year we broke the ‘fifty Jowett barrier’, so please keep them coming -
there is till plenty of room.
his year’s ‘Rose of the Shires’ National
Rally was a great success and
Craig Ainge and his hard-working team
should be congratulated for putting on such
an excellent event. The concours display
at Gaydon on the Saturday was a wonderful
sight with over one hundred Jowetts on
display on one side of the entrance road to
the museum. Thanks to Craig’s hard work,
the Gerald Palmer Centenary Rally, arranged
by Paul Batho of the MG Magnette
Club, moved their rally date back a week
so they could mount their display on the
other side of the road to the JCC with a
similar number of Gerald’s creations including
the MG Magnette, Riley Pathfinder
and Wolseley. So those in attendance
had three displays to look round: the JCC,
‘GP100’, and the Gaydon Motor Museum
which we had free access to.
Craig, along with Paul Batho of the
MG Club, had arranged three seminars in
one of the lecture rooms in the Gaydon
complex in memory of Gerald. The first
featured Christopher Balfour, the author of
the Gerald Palmer biography, Auto-architect;
the second session was arranged by
Paul Batho of the MG Magnette Owner’s
Club and had four speakers talking about
working with Gerald at various times during
his career. The speakers included Peter
Tothill and Alan Hill, who both worked
with Gerald at BMC, Don Payne who
worked with him on the Oxford Hoist, and
Phill Green, who talked about his time with
him at Vauxhall; this latter was an excellent,
and moving account by Phill.
I had been asked by Craig to organise
the third session, which was Jowett related;
this session was to run from 2.30 to 3.30
pm, but the second session overran by 25
minutes, so we were a bit late getting
