Jowett Annual Weekend, Wales, June 2012
Jowett Annual Weekend, Wales, June 2012
Now that we have all got home safely from the 2011 rally, I thought it worth having a thread for information and countdown to the next annual rally, which is taking place over the moved bank holiday date of 2nd to 4th June 2012 for your diaries. Note that the bank holiday is moved from the usual end of May weekend due to the Queen's Diamond Jubillee, worth noting that it seems the Tuesday (5th June) is also a bank holiday.
I assume that as progress with plans and programme are announced a member of the rally team will be able to update us on the forum in the same way that Craig's team very helpfully did this year for the 2011 rally.
Hopefully we can get latest details of the location and contact details online to assist members communicating with the rally organisers.

Sorry if I missed it, where will this event take place?

Re: e-enabling rally forms and payments?
Following a query regarding rally forms on another thread, would it be possible to have online (email or otherwise) application for the rally please?
I find it much easier to keep track of things with electronic communications as that's the way I deal with 95% of my admin, and it would be great if the JCC Rally were e-enabled.
If the Rally Committee could consider using online forms (a Word or PDF doc that we could download, fill in on a PC and email to rally organiser, for example) that would be really helpful. I'm happy to assist with creation of such a document, it wouldn't take me more than half an hour to do, and would also be happy to assist with setting up a central account - for example on the jowett.net domain - that electronic applications could be sent to.
Also, I think my bank are phasing out cheques and I'm nearly at the end of a chequebook, and yet I have a paypal account - is payment via paypal something that may be possible?
I suspect both online applications and paypal would greatly assist our international membership as well.
Many thanks in advance,
Amy.

Forms can be created from any text file, but useful to include menu selections for any field (box) or other constraints on typed input.
Payment method needs to be sorted with treasurer and rally committee; both BACS/EFT or Paybal should be possible (we just need to be careful of business charges)

Re: Jowett Annual Weekend, Wales, June 2012
Typically Paypal users are aware that it incurs fees for the recipient, and are happy to cover them due to convenience. In the same way as some businesses charge an extra 2% for credit card payments, paypal users know that sending money isn't free and will pay for it. Hopefully this helps - I can't imagine many international members complaining about a charge which will be about £1 in order to be able to use paypal.Forumadmin wrote:Forms can be created from any text file, but useful to include menu selections for any field (box) or other constraints on typed input.

In paypal there is an option for the sender to cover the fees, that might be an alternative, but is typically something that more people get wrong than just typing in the slightly higher amount to cover the charges.

Re: Jowett Annual Weekend, Wales, June 2012
Geoff Wills is currently creating an updated Rally Entry Form to go out with the September Jowetteer. I will request an electronic copy be sent to Forumadmin. I have advised Geoff that I am happy to accept Rally deposits via BACS / EFT and this is the route I currently prefer. Cheques have been given an extension as there is no non-electronic system in place to currently replace them. Of the 40 rooms booked at Daventry 12 did not have an e-mail address so invoices were sent out snail.
Rally bookings on line could be the first learning curve in the use of " Membership Renewal " on line.

I like the idea of using rally bookings as a learning curve; there's no pressure to do it online, but having the facility there (and, importantly, seeing that other people use it and it's successful) would be great.
The Clements/Moon household shall be fully embracing the electronic versions when they appear

Re: Jowett Annual Weekend, Wales, June 2012
Ian, Your info has certainly NOT fallen onto unfertile ground, far from it. After the Daventry Rally we took the Jupiter over to Wales and one of our ports of call was Llandrindod Wells. It does not take you long to discover the Automobile Palace as we came across it while we were looking for the Metropole Hotel in Temple Street. Quite a place with all the old manufacturers names around the roof line. Yes, more to come on this.
When this Rally started to take shape, due to no Section coming forward as an organising body for 2012, it was agreed to run a lower key event as all the initial organising committee are spread all over the UK. In the main, despite only having the opportunity to meet no more than four times per year (at Exec meetings, AGM & the national rally ) things are falling into place. Now let mke make this very clear- This is an experiment. It has not been done before. We may not get it all correct first time. There is a learning curve. Now, as nearly all who are on the "National Rally Committee" have other jobs within the JCC a plan as when to start the publicity of 2012 was put to the 2010 AGM. It did start at Daventry with a good response ( 40 rooms booked ). The next step was to start the Jowetteer promotion in September (this was advised in the July and August Jowetteers ) as most were in no position to take bookings during July or August due the preparing and finalising the Club's financial year and annual hols.
That was our plan and we are not altering it. There is still a lot to be done, however, a lot of background work has been completed over the period since Daventry. What was hoped to be a low key event appears to be growing by the minute.
This is a very friendly club with a very good volunteer base. I have sent your welcome suggestions on to Geoff Wills. All ideas are welcome. I know that the scenic run organisation was completed earlier this year, however mods as always possible.
At least this post is in the correct section.

Peter,
That's fantastic news. In a few weeks you will receive a booking form with the September Jowetteer which you can complete and post or e-mail back too myself and also details of how to send in your deposit. It is hoped to get an on-line booking system set up via Keith.
Cheers Drummond

Drummond (et al): -
I know as well as any, the work that goes on in the background of these events - I was Chief Marshall, Clerk of the Course and Safety Officer for the Bexhill 100 (look it up) series throughout all the shows.
It seems the main problem - that is, as seen by those members of the club that use jowett.net regularly - has been the apparent lack of progress, or at least - REPORTED progress.
From your post it is now obvious that a great deal has already been done and this should go a very long way to addressing the previous criticism. Well done the committee!
Very few of us expect perfection in any aspect of our daily lives, and those that do are usually disappointed. A sage (someone will know who) once said "He who never made a mistake never made anything". Most of those attending will simply be looking for good companionship amongst like-minded friends, and I am sure they will not be disappointed.
If any part of my previous posts has shed light on possible activities, rather than generating heat or friction, then it will all have been worthwhile.
I am sure everyone will appreciate that it more important to MAKE progress than to spend the time REPORTING on progress already made.
I visit the Ll-W area fairly frequently (again next week as it happens) and I know there are many interesting motoring-related stories to be told in the area. My visits there usually seem to coincide with rallies by such bodies as the Bentley Owners Club, local rally groups, and sometimes simply people out for a ride in their classic/vintage vehicles - modern motorbikes too, 100's of 'em!
I wonder if there are any Jowett related bicycles in the museum?
I can't wait to see what the scenic run will bring, There is SO MUCH scenery in that part of the world. I guess it will have to cover about 300 miles, with refuelling stops and overnight accommodation in the Snowdon foothills and the Black mountains!
This is promising to be a most interesting and enjoyable rally. Can't wait for next June!
To the committee: - Keep up the good work, thank you all for your (so far unsung) efforts, and I am sorry not to be able to contribute in some more constructive manner. Unless you know better!?
