White Metal Bearings

Post by AlanBartlett »

As my engine has been sat around undercover of a blanket for a while in the garage, while waiting for pistons and a rebore, I've found that the crank shaft had gotten tight on the rear main and seized, after a little heat and some plus gas/WD40 I had freed it, but in doing so the rear main bearing also came free from the rear casing, causing it to chip away at the rear main bearing from its locating peg. Is this something that can be repaired or would it require a whole new bearing. I just worry that it could come loose completely in the housing and shear off its collar.

Had the engine been running before it seized?
The shaft may not have enough running clearance or the block may need line boring. When assembling use assembly grease to help with the initial stiction and protect the bearing surfaces from the initial high wear before they get bedded in.
