Javelin looking for new home

I have a 1949 Javelin which i bought last year for restoration. I have done a fair bit of welding but a lot of work still remains. It is fairly complete. Body panels are not too bad although the doors need work at the bottom.

I have to part with the car as i am moving to New Zealand and the cost of shipping is horrendous.

It has the original log book and i think is worth saving. I don't want a lot of money for it if someone can make use of it.

Give me a clue, what is not a lot of money? I had D9 PA 4246 for about 8 years and miss the delicious noise of the flat four and even the noise of the starter. My aim would be to restore her and get involved with the club again. They might not remember me but I know Drummond Black and Tim Brown. I also used to know Roy Braddock very well. I'm not a squillionaire but would try to pay a fair price. Didn't Roy Flowers used to have a bright yellow Long 4?

What a splendid memory you have. Your silver Javelin put a leg out of bed as I recall you saying. My Dad, chief rescuer, is now living on the Isle of Arran, Jowett'less alas. However thanks for the encouragment, I look forward to hearing from Dogger. A question though for any body who knows, how much does a Javelin weigh, as my tow car for the trailer may be near its limit. I'm looking at 29cwt top wack including the trailer, any thoughts?

According to a 1949 road test by the Motor magazine, the Javelin weighed 20.75 cwt unladen,which I calculate to be 2296 lb. A 1952 road test for a De Luxe model gives 21.5 cwt unladen or 2408 lb.

That leaves me with about 7.5cwt to play with, The trailer should not be that heavy, but I will do some research.

I dont know what transporter costs are like in the UK....
NZ to transport 600 odd miles in 1 island about $180 NZ
By the time one pays for gas, motels etc to trailer is almost 2x the cost.

To transport interisland about $850.
To trailer or drive motels, ferry costs gets to about 3x times the cost.

What part of NZ are u looking at coming to?

A Javlin on reasonable condition here u are looking about $NZ 6000 to $7500
Bradfords have gone drom around $1500 to 4000 to 6000
Javlins from $3000 to 7000 in the last 4 to 5 yrs.

I may be getting confused but I thought Dogger was horrified about the shipping costs to NZ from the UK. I'm not too concerned if I have to hire a trailer for a day and collect the car from Oxford, but wanted to check weights for my tow car.

Hiring a transporter company is another alternative to moving a vechilce around the country often cheaper and far easier....basically 1 phone call.

Shipping cars from Japan/US to NZ is suprisingly cheap, cheaper than from Aussie to here.

If emergrating, and moving the household stuff...which means a container...why not put the car in and pack around and inside?

Caution thu..we have real strick border controls...agricultural organisms..
Clean everything, every bit of dirt/grass/insect/spider web etc.
Thats the car/shoes/golfclubs etc etc
