The JCC Winter Film Festival 2010 - Tickets now on sale!

Post by Jack »

We are pleased to announce that on Saturday 4th Dec there will be a special cinema screening of the highlights of the Centenary Rally, followed by an exclusive screening of Bullit (1968) with Steve McQueen, featuring one of the greatest car chases of all time through the streets of San Fransisco.

The Festival will be held at The Ritz in Belper, a recently refurbished but old fashioned cinema which first opened its doors in 1919 and which is very much the way that cinemas used to be, with comfortable seating and even luxury sofas available for those arriving early!

All members, as well as their friends and families are welcome. This is designed as a social event, and we do not expect members to bring their cars though they will be most welcome. Location should hopefully not be too far for members of various sections, and this is being organised as a great chance for members to socialise and enjoy a relaxed afternoon and evening with fellow Jowetteers.

When: 4th December 2010, from 1pm
Where: The Ritz Cinema, Belper http://www.ritz-belper.co.uk
Price: £12 per person, cheques payable to Jack Moon, 67 Longman Court, Apsley, Herts, HP3 9RS
Contact/Questions: Please contact Jack Moon through the forum or details available in the members list

Disabled Access: The cinema was built in 1919, and unfortunately there is no getting around a small flight of stairs to get to your seat. The cinema and organisers will endeavour to assist, however this event may not be suitable for wheelchair users as a result. A loop system is available for those hard of hearing.

Please note there are limited numbers, and tickets are already selling fast, so please book early to avoid disappointment. Please include return address with payments. If members would like to PM me through the forum I can get tickets to them and make payment by return.

Post copied to the Jowetteer, hopefully notice will be posted for next month's edition.

Get your tickets now!

Regards,

Jack.

Update - following the advertisement in the Jowetteer (thanks Alan) we now have a number of orders arriving, our postbox is positively overflowing.

If anyone is interested in attending please shout asap, this is looking to be a popular event and I don't want anyone to miss out.

I will also cut off ticket sales a couple of weeks before the event and any unsold tickets will be released to the public - so do not wait if you haven't signed up already.

Program/tickets are now printed, so anyone that has paid me already you will have your paperwork early next week.

Further orders for tickets have arrived in the last couple of weeks following visits to various sections - please note we would like to confirm numbers with the cinema in the next week or so, please make sure that you have got in touch if you haven't already to book seats.

Current sales figures mean that we will have a very respectable number in attendance, but it won't be a packed house just yet. Let's see if we can fill up a few more seats and show that the Jowett Car Club isn't just about driving their cars in fine weather, but we also get out for a fun social event in the winter as well.

If anyone is struggling with transport arrangements please let me know, there are members coming from all across the South, Midlands and North so we can probably help out if it gets you there, and overnight accommodation is available locally for anyone who would like to have a drink or two after the films.

Jack - Apologies but we would find it hard to attend - both myself and Sharon are now even deeper with work committments - I currently have 4 projects on my books and all are miles from each other - any spare time I do have I would like to committ to heavy sleep patterns for the near future.

Well, Keith Wear, our Club Film Librarian has come through for us in spectacular fashion. A mere 24 hours after my call I had a range of Jowett films for our trailer, and I think there's plenty here for everyone.

I am really loving the 1986 and 1987 footage, some familiar faces in there and a great piece of documentary film making that's all about our cars! We have opted for some rarely seen footage that many of us won't have seen before, or at least it may well be 20 years or more since you last saw it.

Final, absolute last call for anyone who is considering attending, or wants to bring others along. Some tickets have been despatched to Malcolm for any Midlands section members who want to opt in at the last minute, otherwise I can accommodate a few people turning up on the day.

My phone number is in the Jowetteer October edition, or send me a message through the board asap if you are considering this one.

All,

Following a call from the cinema this afternoon, many of their staff are struggling to get to work due to snow, and the conditions are not expected to improve in the short term. They are currently seeing more than a foot of snow on the ground, and roads were described as treacherous.

We have made the decision to reschedule the event for next year, the last thing we want is members travelling a significant distance in the current weather - it is sad that we've had to do it, but unfortunately it is the right call on this one.

I will be calling members who had bought tickets directly by phone today and tomorrow. Please share the news with your fellow members if you know they are attending, to avoid anyone missing the news, I'd rather they were told twice than not at all.

Regards,

Jack.

Hi Jack,

Do you have a re-scheduled date, for the film show yet?

Hi Paul,

Currently looking at late season this year - I need to speak to the various sections about free dates in their diaries. I also need to speak to the cinema to get availability, though given several months notice this shouldn't be an issue.

I suspect I will have all the information and a proposed date by the rally in May, hopefully this will give everyone plenty of time to check diaries etc.
