Chris,

If you remember there was a recent advert on eBay (and copied to Jowetttalk) for a 1934 long four saloon that had a re-conditioned engine, dynamo and carburettor; all wheels shot blasted and powder-coated, four of which had new tyres, inner tubes and tapes, along with seats re-upholstered and front and back bumpers re-chromed etc. etc..

I was very tempted to have a punt at this car, but we decided that we didn't have anywhere to put it so some other lucky person has snapped it up.

I reckoned that at today's prices at least £4 - 5000 had been spent on the car and it still needed quite a bit of work and a re-spray, and with the actual car itself being worth a price as well, perhaps a sensible figure for it would have been around £5000.

I can't quite recall the winning bid but it was somewhere in the region of £1,875, which makes the starting bid for this Jowett Kestrel, seeming to need rather a lot of restoration, quite high.

But you never know.

Tony.

Tony - I can only agree with you - but at least the vendor is willling to accept a or nearest offer - although as you state it requires quite a lot of work for a restoration project I think it is the way that the market has pushed the up prices - A complete basket case of a Austin 7 project now brings at least £1000 so thereby anything that is 90% complete and solid tends to start at £1500 - and it tends to be the buyer that is new to restoration that pays this price - I like you very nearly had punt at the long 4 - but decided that with a house move planned in the next 12 months I had better restrain myself.
