The company that I work for recently changed their vehicle policy and I for one was not fond of paying the taxman a lot of money for the sake of having a vehicle as a taxable benefit that I had no say on model or colour - I can however provide my own vehicle for which my employer provides an allowance. This involved me using our private car and my wife Sharon being without transport during the working day.
So nothing left but to purchase a set of wheels for the wife which we did on the Friday morning prior to leaving for the rally - the dealer kindly sorted a 7 day drive away insurance cover to get the vehicle taxed and we collected the car on Saturday.
I needed a insurance policy to follow on from the 7 day cover so after a quick ring round and quotes from £850 to £1400 + were made (including my present insurance co with whom I have the Astra covered) - I called Footman James
I already have the Jowett & Rover covered them them - They have included the new car Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 SXI - plus the Jowett and the Rover on a multi car policy - all fully comprehensive - no mileage limit on the Corsa and covered for business use - Rover on agreed valuation of £10K - 1500 mile limit, Jowett on full cover (presently laid up) - full european cover - loads of other benefits - All for the sum of £555 !!!
This is without any discount for no claims (my no claims bonus is on the Astra at present) - to crown all of this they are paying a commission to the Jowett Car Club and are refunding pro rata the 6 unused months on the present Rover & Jowett polices. Needless to say they shall be getting the Astra policy when it becomes due in November.

Re: Footman James Insurance.
Thanks for this Chris. I am about to get my Javelin back on the road after 30years plus (don't ask!) and was wondering about insurance. Do you also have breakdown rescue arranged? I realise that your Jowett isn't on the road yet but I was just wondering if Footman James organise breakdown cover as well.
Thanks
Paul

Re: Footman James Insurance.
Hi Paul,
I've just insured my car with Footman James now I'm doing a lot less miles than I was.
Their cover includes European Breakdown normally, not sure if there is an option to remove this but it seemed like a good idea when they quoted me and the price was similarly very very good for the mileage and value they covered me for - less than half a "normal" insurer for the same car.
Give them a call, they are very good at advising things and can provide a quote.
Jack's tip of the day, if you are going to be insuring your car in a few weeks time get a quote from them now including club discount, as this gets locked in for several weeks - it's some regulation with insurance companies I think, and you have several weeks to then ring up and confirm that you want it. With things the way they are in the world of insurance and litigation, costs are only going up - the saving won't be huge but it could be £20-£30 difference to what you'd have got later on. Also useful for insurance companies doing great deals on modern cars, if your renewal date isn't for several weeks you can lock in a cheap deal and see what comes up over the few weeks.
Jack.

Paul - Yes, breakdown cover came as standard for all three cars on the policy - bearing in mind that a decent AA / RAC membership with european cover & home start is now £90+ - this makes the policies that FJ offer very good value for money when compared with what other insurers offer
