Hello!

Post by Ross Hay »

Hi everyone!

I thought I would introduce myself as the new owner of the Jowett 7HP Long that was being advertised on eBay and which was sold last year at Bonhams to Martyn Cragg (PY8446). My name is Ross, I live down in Surrey and although Ive had a number of "classic" landrovers, a 7 replica and a Vauxhall Chevette in my time, this is my first foray into pre-war toys.

No doubt I will have lots of questions as time goes by, but an initial look at the Jowett owners club and these forums was one of the things that finally convinced me to part with my money - you all seem a very helpful bunch! (and the Jowett being a very pretty car of course!).

I've taken on board your comments on needing 3 new tyres 8) and also dont plan to over restore it. In fact I plan on using it pretty much straight off after a check over for this summer before some sympathetic work over the winter.

Anyway, I look forward to meeting up with some of you and participating in some of the events.

Ross

Hi Ross,

Welcome to the forum.

Your location is handy for Jowett spares at Bill Lock's emporium, and plenty of us around North and West London (some more active on the internet than others!)

Keep an eye on the forums for details of a beer in Hertfordshire, about 25 mins from you, I think there's plans afoot for a drink over the summer and talking about the cars etc, and it would be good to have a good look at your car sometime - you may even get some offers of help with work.

You'll find dozens of members on here happy to help, and good to see the car is going to get used and kept going.

Jack.

PS - I wouldn't change the tyres, they'll be fine :)

Hi Ross and again welcome. I am pleased that the tourer found its way into the hands of someone who will use it, not stuff it in a museum. Meet you one day hopefully!!

Ditto from me Ross.

I had a similar 1927 long 2 (7h.p.) for a few years not too long ago.

They're fun to drive when you've overcome the idiosyncrasies.

You'll enjoy the cameraderie of the Club, and the back-up you'll get from the members and from Jowett Car Spares Ltd., the JCC's Spares operation run from Yorkshire by member volunteers.

Next year's National Rally is at Daventry, and there's always the Ex-employees do at the Bradford Industrial Museum in August. Details will be available in the Jowetteer magazine.

Regards,

Tony.

Welcome from me too! I am repairing a Long Four (See the pre-war section a few posts back for a picture of it at Wakefield).

Although he has been ill of late, it may be of interest to contact Alan Benewith through this website or possibly by phone as he lives in Surrey with another prte-war car. You will need to join the club to get details of all members.

Although technically you will be in the Southern Section, I know you would be very welcome at ANY club meetings, again watch the website for details.

Could you perhaps post a picture of your car - regardless of its condition! (See Pre War as above!).

Again - welcome to the club. Join in the fun!

Lovely car, well spotted and bought.

They are just so much fun, and the club as you can see is far from being unfriendly.

As Jack said great that you plan to use it. A museum has its place but the cars were built to be used. Admittedly mine is a trifle newer but has just racked up 10K miles in almost exactly 3 years. Fly the flag and enjoy your new toy.

Now I can see it, I think your car was parked next to mine at Wakefield!

But hang on! it also looks like the car currently on eBay.

Three of a kind?

Answers please!

Spot on Alastair!

It doesnt have a hood or frame, so that will be one of the items on the list to get made - any recommendations gladly received!

Hello Ross,

Can I suggest chatting to Tony Fearn (send him a pm) he has had one made for Sarah Jane (a 34??? Flying Fox). He may be able to help point you in the right direction.
