Screenwiper Motor

Post by kemp1942 »

Arabella's screenwiper motor is a 'Bosch' make, and stamped 'Imported to England' (in German!). I assumed it was either fitted by Eagle Coachworks or was a replacement for the original.
I have been keeping an eye out for a Lucas BUT today I see on ebay a 'Bosch' screenwiper motor described as being from a vintage Jowett and similarly marked, and which looks identical to mine.

So my question is - did Jowett fit 'Bosch' screenwiper motors

not 100% sure bit have a feeling that they did around 1934. Also i am pretty sure but by no means 100% that the photos in the 19th edition instruction book show a Bosche motor on the commercial & Lucas on the car.

Hello Ian.

Can't help either, but the wiper motor which was on 'Mary Ellen' when I got her in the 60's was one of the oval type Lucas motors with the little button that you pulled out and spinned to start it going.

Looking forward to chasing 'Arabella' up the Yorkshire hills.

Tony.

Thanks Both.

Arabella was supplied to Godfreys as a rolling chassis - perhaps all rolling chassis were fitted with the 'Bosch' since they were expected be built up with a commercial body ? It's a thought. Must do some more digging on this one.
Perhaps Bosch could look up their old Sales records and tell me if they supplied Jowett !!!

Tony - you won't have too much trouble chasing Arabella up the Yorkshire hills - my daughter followed me in the Vectra to the MOT (in case I broke down), and she told me I had got up to 40 mph - this on a long DOWNHILL stretch !!
