Can anyone advise me as to the best source for a clutch drive shaft bearing for my E0?
See my Gallery item in the Transmission album for the reason why!!

Gearbox bearing for Clutch & Mainshaft are available from most good bearing stockists. I have just rebuilt a new gearbox for the Jupiter when I fitted the overdrive and I fitted new bearings throughout. I fitted a sealed bearing at the clutch shaft to help keep the oil in the gearbox. I always run gearboxes on the testbed prior to fitting in a car. I found that when the bearing was first fitted with both seals in place oil did in fact seep through. This was put down to gearbox oil getting into the bearing past the inner seal and then having to find a way out. I removed the bearing and took out the INNER seal and refitted it. After 10 hours on the test bed no leak was noticed. I did a small mod on the brass clutch bearing housing before fitting. A small hole was drilled and tapped 1/4 BSF at the lowest point. It was tapped so it it could be closed off from under the car through the bottom of the bell housing. Since fitting the box I have completed over 2,000 miles ( includes Bideford Rally ) with no sign of oil leaking. More details are available is required.

Drummond.
I was most interested in the fact that you fitted a sealed bearing, as I had been 'mulling' this over in my mind having viewed the oil and 'crud' encrusted interior of the bell housing resulting from the 'total loss' system of oiling the front bearing! I had in fact decided that a single seal (on the outside as you say) was probably the best bet as gearbox hydraulic pressure would quite likely force oil past an inner seal anyway.

I had also thought that I would use sealed bearings on the front hubs too as the original seal design is pretty archaic and bound to leak.

I fitted a rubber seal inside the bell housing over where the reverse spiral on the shaft.

But Drums may have a good idea. Some bearing numbers would be useful.
