Having just put the Jupiter back on the road it needed a new distributor. I have fitted a NEW lucas 41427 ( 45D ) which I picked up at an autojumble a few years back. The main reason for choosing this one was it has a weight advance of 10 degrees. ( same as Jav / Jup ) . The power curves are slightly different however it appears to work well. The car runs well and the power appears to have improved slightly. I set static about 5 degrees AFTER TDC as the strobe gives a reading of 25 degrees before TDC with vacuum and weight advance. It has done about 500 miles now and appears to perform well. The only disadvantage is that there is no fine advance or retard adjustment as per the DM2. Leaving for the Rally tomorrow ( 22nd ) so it should get a good test the week. The 41427 appears to have been used on MG B and Land Rover in the late sixties and early seventies..
And comments or advice will be welcome[/u]

Looking at the Lucas list it seems that the 41427 rotates counter clockwise and the normal Jowett ones clockwise. Drummond?

I always said your Jup was like a tractor!

G'dday,
Just one thought on the distributor topic.
Did Lucas ever manufacture a replacement distributor for the early 1980s Honda Civic?
My car is now running a Honda Civic electronic ignition system, with Jowett advance curve installed.
I attended a training course at CAV (Fuel Injection) in the early 1990s and discovered that a significant part of their manufacturing was injection pump kits to replace original Japanese Mazda, Nissan and Toyota original equipment fuel injection pumps.
It would have been good if Lucas had done the same with distributors!
Regards,
Mike Allfrey.

G'dday,
Thanks Pat. Went through all the steps you describe. With respect to the Honda distributor, I have sketches of what needs machining. It should also be noted that Honda used two suppliers and one has a hardened shaft that requires anealing before machining.
