Dutch Javelin memories

Why not tell us about your car (start with a picture) and say what you have done with it; either restoring or using it over the years. Restoration of particular parts is of special interest. Club members can have their space on in their Personal Album to do this.

Dutch Javelin memories

Arie de Keyzer to webmaster

I owned a Javelin in the fifties in Holland. I bought the car with a cracked block as the previous owner forgot to put anti freeze in it. It was the most comfortable car I ever had, but it had a lot of problems.
The transmission had the bad habit to go in two gears at a time and I had to crawl under the car, remove the side cover and get it in neutral again. I always carried a shop coat and the tools with me.
The other problem I had was low oil pressure. I rebuilt the engine, ground crank and new bearings, but still the green light came on and the engine started rattling again. I tried everything but to no avail. Also starting was a problem during the winter and I had to crank it by hand many times. I had to get rid of it.
Some people replaced the engine with a Volkswagen engine I heard.
