TOO CLOSE

Post by Chris Spencer »

Alastair - When you have a Jupiter in this many peices - the rally is far too close for comfort - they are some very clenched bottoms in 'Team SC' at present - it is far too easy to say the rally is far away yet when you only have to tinker with a dynamo - we have yet to get the engine to run - and the seats to put in, and the wiring to complete, bonnet and windscreen frame to fit, 2 doors to hang, 4 wings and a boot to paint and fit, a floor to cut and fit, trim to polish and fit, lights to install and check, paint to flat and polish - by hand - mind - none of this fancy powered buffing mops - everthing else that I have not mentioned to do, a MOT test - Ho and by the way I have a weeks holiday with the other half in Greece to fit in a just over 10 days time - Now who said PANIC !!!!! - We have not started to even look for the hood yet ! - But we shall see you at the rally !

Chris - You do have a point :D

It'll be just the same next year when you are trying to get the 8 to the Rally at Daventry

It is possible that there may be a spare new SC Tonneau going in Black. This isn't a guarantee but I believe it is being made at the moment, interested in an at cost tonneau? Amy, Keith, Jack?

Alastair - The 8 is a little way down the list and will not be at any rally for the next few years - odds & sods may well get done - but I have several months building works to undertake in order complete the London pad - while this is going on we are also searching for a second property outside London - Will it be a walk in and start living abode ?? - Get real - I might have lived in the South for the last 20 odd years but I am still a tight grumpy Northener and proud of it.

So once the country wreck is bought, rebuilt, garage, workshop and the other half's studio finished the 8 has to wait. Still I rather it would wait than be broken for spares as would have been the fate had I not bought it.

What nearly 90 of the little beauties?

That would mean we have exceeded the 60 for their 60th year!!!

It's rather a good show before we get there methinks!! Well done Paul and the team :D

At the lat count it was 64 + special bodies and I have at least 2 more as late entries. Some are potentially either/or options, but we are likely to have more Jupiters than Deluxe Javelins. That is unheard of!!

Unheard of!!

It is the Jupiters 60th anniversary and the Centenary for Jowetts. It is rather fitting, if you exclude the non productionised cars (R1, R4 and CD), then it was their last mass(?!?) produced design. But in theory the Javelin outsold the Jupiter 26:1, not knowing the split between Deluxe and Standard but guessing that it might cut the odds to say 20:1, I, like you would have expected a few more de luxe Javelins

That should work out 1280 De-luxe Javelins to 64 Jupiters.

64 Jupiters at 62.5BHP is 4000 BHP (Its Lunch at work, and I was a bit suspicious about those mushrooms!!!) Thats considerably more than three Rolls Royce Merlin engines. But can you imagine what a glorious sound if they all started together and ran at say 3000RPM, Bring in the percussion (The twins) at say 1500 RPM and finally a Chorus of maybe 50 Javelins, again at 3000 RPM.

We might have a problem if 1280 turned up :D . We might also have a problem finding that many Javelins

Go on sneak a peek at the number of special bodied Jups coming and share with us pretty please along with the overall tally.

Thanks Man! (Those mushrooms again)

Slight correction! I was working from my defunct memory. Actual numbers are 42 in the programme plus 6 special bodied including an R4 and I have a possible 4 more as late entries. BUT we only have 36 Deluxe Javelins. Overall we have about 170 vehicles

Centenary car badge.

Post by Tony Fearn »

There are only 100 of the gold-plated Centenary badges to be produced as far as I'm aware.

In another JowettTalk section I posted:-

In the April edition of the Jowetteer, on page 26 there's a photo of the grille/bar badge that Danuta and her family have designed as a memento of the extra-special Centenary Rally in Yorkshire this year.

I personally think that it's a very classic design, not at all 'fussy', and it will grace any of our vehicles that sports it.

As far as I know, the 100-limited-production badges have the lettering in gold with a complementary enamelled background.

I have just ordered one, and Danuta says so have several others, so if you want to have a limited edition badge on your Jowett, perhaps you'd better let Danuta know. I'll bet they'll be snapped-up rather pdq.

Because of the gold plating, I understand that the badges are in the region of £38 each. If you want a badge bar mounting bracket it will be an extra £7 or so.

Is anyone up for clubbing together to buy Amy and Jack one of these badges to go on the 'great rebuilt' S.C. if it gets to the Rally because of all the fun we've had reading how it happened?

Maybe they are all already sold, but if not I'm in for 5 quid, and we'll only need another 7 of you to cough up as well.

Any offers?

That's if there are any left of course.

Tony.
