Hi everyone

Looking ahead to Basingstoke, I thought I would look at some of the reviews people have added, once they have stayed at the Hampshire Court Hotel. As usual, they are very varied, but one did catch my eye.

When checking-in, visitors can apparently be asked to present their debit or credit cards. This particular visitor presented his debit card and the hotel promptly took £150 from the card, to cover incidentals, like drinks etc. during the stay. In the event the guest did not have any additional drinks etc. charged to their room and then checked-out at the conclusion of their stay. However, it apparently then took five days for the £150 to re-appear in their bank account!

I have contacted the hotel and have been assured that this process of presenting a credit or debit card at check-in is entirely voluntary...you can still have the option of 'paying as you go' for incidentals etc. Just thought I would mention this, in case you don't want to feel pressurised into having some money deducted from your account by the hotel and then refunded later?

Anyway, I do hope you all have a lovely journey down to Basingstoke. We are really looking forward to meeting you all.

Our very grateful thanks to the organisers and let's hope the weather is great?

Have a safe and smooth journey.

Best regards,

David & Juliet

I am sorry to have missed all the fun of the rally yet again, but as I had only got my Long Four back on the road in the last few days and had not had the opportunity to get any test mileage ' on the clock ', I was not anxious to make a 200 mile round trip 'on the offchance'.

I hope the rally was its usual - or even better! - success and that everyone got home safely.

As a consolation my son and I took the car to a local rally, the Laughton Cuckoo Fair, about 17 miles away, happily without incident.

Whilst there we prevailed on the President of the local 4 x 4 club to let us use their Land Rover Test Hill. The plan was to recreate the picture on page 28 of 'The Complete Jowett History'.

I am pleased to say we managed to get to the top of the Test Hill - and VERY nearly over it - and a video has been posted on YouTube, (see - Jowett long four 7hp testing on the hills).

A photograph will be posted in 'Pre-war' once we have mastered the technology!

Well, I have just about cleared the fog from trying to catch up on 3 days sleep in one night, Chris and I being on the M25 for several hours yesterday getting all the cars, equipment and people to their respective homes, and having to go back to work this morning!

The rally committee really enjoyed the weekend, now having a great insight into what really goes into the Jowett Annual Weekend every year, meeting new people, learning new names and putting some of them to faces too.

Members travelled huge distances to get to the rally, including several prewar cars from the North of England, the Purves' Bradford from Scotland, and Javelins and Jupiters from Holland and Denmark respectively, as well as many attending without their cars just to enjoy the atmosphere. We have a quick snap of every car that came to the rally, and will upload them this week.

We did things a little differently this year, taking out one or two things that we thought wouldn't be missed, and so far nobody has missed them (or at least if they have they didn't mention it to us or put it on their feedback forms!) and we added a few things that we thought attendees would enjoy - luckily it seems that many did appreciate that without alienating those who didn't want to see the usual feel of this event changed too much. You can't please all of the people all of the time, but we did our best to do exactly that.

The committee now has several jobs to do in the coming weeks, including finalising the budget, paying the various bills, and getting a reasonable number of items provided to us back to their various homes from the weekend.

We did the thanks at the Sunday Gala Dinner, but once again it is important that everyone recognises that 6 people didn't do everything to make this rally happen - many people assisted with concours judging, marshalling, bringing displays and stands from across the country, getting fellow members around throughout, and continuing to smile and enjoy themselves even with the weather as you arrived on Friday!

There were, as always with any event of this scale, a couple of things that we would do differently in future, both in the planning stages and also during the weekend itself. We have a plan to hand over to the 2014 rally committee, and also to publish the feedback in full from the forms we received (anonymised just in case) so that everyone that didn't make it to the rally gets a feel for what kind of event this really was.

If you have any feedback on the rally, please feel free to post it here, or call or e-mail any rally commitee member, because we love hearing about your experience of the weekend, and appreciate knowing what we can do to make it better for everybody in future. If you would prefer to keep your feedback anonymous you are very welcome to do so by completing your feedback form and posting it without your name included.

Finally if you have any photos or video from the event, please upload them as soon as possible to the Gallery or send them to us, because we have a number of sponsors and publications who are really keen to see how it went, and a picture paints a thousand words. Also please do not forget to get in touch with Alan Brierley so that he can include your experiences in the Jowetteer, his e-mail address is in the Jowetteer so you can get in touch with him.

Jack.

Ian,

Firstly Brilliant to hear your enjoying your car, and having fun testing it on various terrain. I liked the youtube videos. Putting the car through its paces.

Jack,

Well done on a great rally. I enjoyed it. A good chance as always every year to catch up with various member from around the globe. I was also impressed and very, very surprised that the lady made the journey there and back without protest or hiccup. Looking forward to next year, must get the milage in though before hand. As I found the whole trip quite tiring but thoroughly enjoyable. Having chatted to various members my list of things Id like to get done and do with the car has gotten longer. But another year ahead.

Thank you all for arranging a wonderful Rally. Hilary and I have had a really good time. I've a few photos to send around to various people, including the ones taken by the Jowett Juniors, Lydia, Andrew and Kris at the Milestones museum.
Here are a couple of photos that show what enjoyment can come from sitting in a pre-war Jowett.

Clive and Coral Warren are in the process of rebuilding their own 'Flying Fox', and they and the Jowett Juniors were trying mine out for size.

Jack,

Are the photos up anywhere of the period dress on the rally field day? And of the evening photos from the Sunday?
