This is not my completed car, but is the original body of my spare chassis. The body as can be seen has been lovingly restored.

This is also not my car ,but is a Jowett special built many moons ago called the SPAD supercharged Jowett motor & gearbox.

These photos show the wood trim along the top of the doors. 1st impression is that they are only good for patterns. However after a light sand I would like to try & save the trims. Any suggestions on products to de mould ? Fill cracks? Glue splits?
Also what wood were these made of?
One trim has what appears to be Japan Black, was this the original colour of Jupiter trims?
Any suggestions appreciated.

The heavy work on 715 has come to a grinding halt ,as I severely hurt my back, moving an engine in preparation for 715's strip down.
Though moving again, & feeling quite good after injections etc My children s & doctors words of "what were you thinking Idiot" are still fresh in my mind.
I won't be lifting anything until my engine crane has been delivered, & then very , very carefully. To keep productive I am now working on small light items such as switch gear, door trims, & as per photo collecting whitworth spanners , cleaning & sorting ready for use. Most were my late Dads & are ancient, all are going to look like new after a molasses bath.

Hello David:
Sorry to hear of your back problems.
The wood was natural, not painted or stained. Don't know if it was lacquered or oiled, but I have done both and the results are nice either way. The black you see is staining where the wood has sucked up iron molecules, particularly where the screws passed through the wood.
I would net search techniques to "swell" the wood, as those are pretty dried out. Waterproof wood glue will last forever, but boat builders use West Systems epoxy to stick things back together. Both will leave a "parting line" where edges meet. Be sure to have the part screwed/clamped into it's absolute final position before gluing things together.

The wood trim has been timber restored, It looks far better, I am tempted to redo again as I have learnt a fair bit. And now found some matching timber(American Oak) I could use as inlay.
