Wow, the new library is a fabulous collection!
Must have taken ages to load all that data.
Thank you so much for bringing the past to life!
It's amazing to see and listen to all the members, both past and present (as I don't get out much! - especially at the moment).
Particularly interesting to see Gerald Palmer and my Javelin (LNK 349) over the last 30 years.
Regards
Roger Barnsby

Reorganization and indexing
The opportunity has been taken of tidying up the Library with the advent of the pdf search system available in Member Services. This is also available via JowettTalk provided you are in the Club Members group. Click to search the Archive .
All documents are Optical Character Read, if they do not contain renderable text, so that the text is searchable and can be copied into articles or posts. They are also watermarked to make them traceabkle and resized to make them more quickly read.
The file name is also standardised before using a forum/post prefix.
Some documents will be moved to a more appropriate place and many of the old large or not OCRed docs will be deleted. Note this may make some references break so if you notice any failed links please notify me with the offending URL.
There were 308 orphaned attachments caused by users adding files as attachments but not then using them in a post. These have been deleted. In many cases these are duplicates of those attached to posts so were not required.
The reorganization will be an ongoing process.
These documents may contain sensitive information so members have a duty of care to protect that sensitivity.

Re: The new Library
Seems despite being a registered user since ... ages I can’t search the database because I’m not a recognised club user.
Can we make this easier for those who are registered users? do we have to make another application?
Is this an unnecessary step?

Re: The new Library
Hi Sue,
JowettTalk and Member Services are separate. Member Services knows about club membership. JowettTalk requires Forumadmin to manually put user into club members group. This I think is clear in the message if you cannot get into the search system from JT.
...............
You are not in the Club Member Group. Please contact Forumadmin if you think you should be. Please provide your email address, your name, telephone number and the Jowett Club to which you belong. Inclusion in the group is a manual process so may be your email address registered in JowettTalk is not the same as that in the club membership list or you did not specify club membership in your Profile when registering.
......
Did you tell JowettTalk you were a club member in your profile when you registered? I can answer that ...you did not.
If you had , I would have checked the club membership list and put you in the club members group.
This I have now done.
The club members group allows you to see the library, club discussion and remembrance section in JT. (which you have not been able to do for ages!)
I know you have separately registered your email in Member Services as a joint member with David as it took some programming of Member Services to accommodate that. So you should have been able to get into the search system via member services. Member Services does NOT require you to remember a password just your email address and was designed precisely to make it simpler. You can ask MS to remember a password to make it easier for frequent users to get in. MS can tell you your JT username if you have forgotten it.
If you tried to start a MS session the system should have recognised your separate email address and membership status. This it does for all Jowett clubs.
The menu in MS has buttons for the search services as well as members map and video library.
I may try to implement an integration between MS and JT similar to that which I did for the Jowett Gallery. But it causes maintenance issues when phpbb software is updated every few months. Phpbb is used by millions of people so I try not to customise it for JT. So I am reluctant to integrate extensively with MS. It does require extensive security validation for me to be satisfied the system would be secure.
I do run an audit every year between MS and JT to clear out lapsed members from club members group based on email address. Note that if your email address in JT is different to that in the Club membership list you will be removed from club members group.
Note you can now use Google and Facebook authentication to get into JT.
