Back to those water/coolant stains in the bores, makes me think that the leaking head gasket had been doing its dastardly deed for longer than we thought. Phil Squire is one lucky Javelin owner. If it had been me, there would have been a massive 'you cannot compress a liquid' drama with crankcase ripped asunder, with all fluids and gasses mixing happily, and thoroughly - all in the one place!
I tend to agree, now, with Neil, it was the head gasket that failed.
There will NOT be a warranty claim.
