Centenary Meeting

Post by msuemason »

David will be there in a Jupiter. I will be there but only if the Javelin is finished. Hopefully Joe will bring Percy the Bradford Van. He can sleep in it as we haven't booked a room for him.

(Mind you I might not bother coming if Drummond promises to behave).

Please, all of you, bring your money to spend on Javelin lapel badges NW Section Stall.

Sleeping in a Bradford.

Post by Tony Fearn »

Well I never!

Tight or what!

Perhaps we can have a whip-round so that Joe can have a room in case he needs the bathroom during the night.

Sort them out Joe!

Your mum says she won't be there if the Javelin isn't finished, so you might have to sleep with dad.

This should be ok if Drummond decides to behave.

Joe bringing Percy or is it the other way round.

Post by Alastair Gregg »

I was there, I heard from his own lips . "Percy will definitely be there" said Joe. So in my book that is what will happen. No letting it slide Mrs M, as his Mother it behoves you to explain things like "A Gentlemans word is his bond" etc etc.

As for the Javelin, your report at www.jowett.wordpress.com suggests all is heading to a timely conclusion.

Drumond, well Drummond is his own man, and good behaviour, you'll just have to turn up and see.
Compliments of the Season,

Forumadmin has spoken to MKO who is overseeing room booking at the hotel for the Centenary Rally. See his post in this Section.

One hundred and twenty rooms have been booked already so there won't be many more available.

Book now if you don't want to be a peripheral Jowetteer

JCC members with Jowetts not yet ready for a National Rally

Post by Tony Fearn »

This one is for P.B. as CEO of the Centenary Rally.

Hi Paul,

Have a look at the topic from Chris Spencer below this one.

Can we do something about it?? Perhaps this is the Rally to sort this problem out.

I well remember that at a relatively recent Rally one of our 'founding members' in the Northern Section, who had to sell his Javelin because he could no longer, at 80 years +, manage the non-power steering, had to park some considerable way from all the action just because he had a modern car (which of course had power-steering).

We really do need to give our long-time older members, as well as members with Classic vehicles other than their not-yet-running Jowetts every consideration possible, as between them and the rest of us are the main reason that the Club still exists.

Perhaps a dedicated space, very near to all the action, for the older members, not in a Jowett, but attending modern, as they have for many years past in their Jowetts could be provided, where they would feel welcomed, and that they would, after all their years of membership, feel part of the Club and not as 'also-rans'.

For Chris (Spencer):-

Good to have you with us Chris. I hope that your request will be considered.

Noel our Press Officer will already have sorted the Classic Car Press and with a bit of luck we shall have an extensive coverage. He's done exceedingly well over the past years on behalf of us all.

Keep posting, especially with discussion topics.

Look forward to meeting you in Yorkshire. There's such an interest, especially with quite a number of the world-wide Jowett fraternity spending their 'kids' inheritance just to be here.

Regards,

Tony;.

Jowett Centenary Rally Publicity
This has been approached on 2 fronts:
Locally to the rally - members have been publicising our presence at Cannon Hall throughout the past season. We hope that this will attract the local public. Cannon Hall hosts several Classic Car Shows annually and these usually attract a lot of interest.
Closer to the rally we will be distributing posters and, if funds permit, advertising in the local press. On the day we will try to get mentioned on local Radio.

As for the Classic car press etc, we have prepared and printed 1000 publicity leaflets which we have used to solicit sponsors as well as publicise both the club and the rally. These were available at the NEC and a batch has already gone to Noel Stokoe to help him communicate with the Classic Car Press. Shortly section secretaries will receive a few each. If anyone can use these they are available, drop me a line or pm me!

My wife tells me that she has booked myself and my son James in through Paul (errata! M K-O!), so we expect to be there.

I am planning to bring the Long Four as well, as I have been determined to get it to the Centenary Rally by hook or by crook, but probably by lorry as I doubt if it will be up to MoT by then.

Still, I MIGHT be able to drive it a bit on private ground?

I also have the wine for Vic Boddy, so there's a reason in itself!

See y'all!

I've just seen that 'Joseph' from London has joined the forum.

Now, he's a student, as quoted in his profile, but I was once a student (in the very early sixties).

So perhaps Joseph, you might want to expand some of the reasons why you've joined the debate, so that we might just learn a little more about you.

Are you coming to Wakefield for the Centenary Rally Joseph?

Do your family have connections with Jowetts?

Have you found one in a barn somewhere and need help with the restoration?

You never know Joseph, once you've started, you might still be posting on this site 47 years in the future like me!

But until then, and if you have the time we'd all like to hear from you.

Tony.

The best laid plans!
What could be simpler, you get raffle tickets printed, put them in the car, deliver them to the Jowetteer distribution company (to give Steve W a posh title) and they drop through your letterbox with your Jowetteer. Simple!! but no!! in our case some of the tickets got mislaid at the printers. Steve duly stuffed envelopes until he ran out of tickets, but by now the bad weather had delayed the mag's despatech so that he could not delay it further. Worse, he had no record of those envelopes that were without tickets. So in an attempt to annoy you all further EVERYONE will get 2 more books of tickets with your Feb Jowetteer. Apologies etc but as my mother used to say, "worse things happen at sea"
If you have not booked a hotel package yet you have only until 1 March to do so. We must confirm bookings to the hotel that week.
