Spring clips for chrome strips for Javelin

Post by paul wilks »

I have booked in 'Yellow Peril' for her respray with a local firm with excellent credentials.
My question (since it's 40 years since I removed the chrome strips for the previous respray!): How are the different strips fitted to the body? I seem to recall that the door strips are fitted by those spring clips only and the bonnet strips are secured by spring clips except towards the front where there are small nuts and bolts. But is my memory correct?
I'd be grateful for confirmation (or otherwise) from those of you who have more recent experience of such things re the fitting of the chrome strips. I guess those small nuts and bolts get pretty rusty as well!
And allied to my question does anyone know whether the spring clips are still available and if so from where.

Many thanks

Paul

Paul,
I've emailed you about this. As an afterthought, if you are taking the strips off the car, keep everything that you take off. I can make the screw ones for you.

Speak soon
Ted

Hi Paul
The bonnet and door chrome strips are held on with special nuts and bolts. The nut "head" is elongated and slides into the strip for a cut out peice at the end of the strip ,
They were in very short supply when I did my Javelin but I made some from flat strips of steel but now they are back in stock and are available from The MGB specialists
The Jowett badge on the rear mudguard is a bit crude as the fitting is held on by a plastic cup (I superglued it on )
