Amy, Jack, Keith et al: -

Please add cogratulations from me and son James on your wonderful achievement. The car looked great at Wakefield, you improved it in the interim, and now THE WHOLE WORLD thinks it is the best.

This gives me - and I am sure many others who are wondering if their efforts are worthwhile - just the sort of encouragement we need to keep the Jowett flag flying with our rescues, rebuilds and restorations.

If the follow-up in the press is as positive as the response from the club members, we are all in for a very interesting time.

Well done again.

I was at the show yesterday - the SC looked just stunning - the Lancaster stand had floor level dimmed lighting which displayed the car at it's very best. It was gaining an awful lot attention which at a show like this can be quite a hard act as you are competing against high value classic cars & restorations.

All the team managed to meet up and it was nice supprise to see Jen who I thought was giving the show a miss, Sharon was the only one who could not get due to extensive work committments ( things change by the second in the film & theatre production world)

Amy & myself dragged the deputy editor at Practical Classics down to the stand and they are very interested in a peice for the mag.

Not sure that we will ever beat what we achceived in this last 12 months or so but what is has given us is a platform to work from - in promoting the club and it's activities.

We do have another project in mind and we shall be announcing this shortly.

Well done to the Midlands section who produced a very interesting and very busy stand in which the club was promoted from more to the point they were having great fun in doing so.

Classic Car Weekly have come up trumps with news of the SC's victory in this weeks edition (Weds 17th November 2010) - on page 4 is a half page feature titled 'Amy's Jowett Jewel' whith a great picture of Amy and the car plus a detailed write up - This is publicity at it's best - promoting Jowett's and the club - there is more to come yet we are active with several of the major classic car publications to make the most of the storyline.

Way too modest there Mr Spencer. The article is brilliant, and in the second column "Amy credits Chris with the toughest job of all, 'He was spraying 35-year-old cellulose paint in a corrugated iron garage in freezing conditions. It was too cold and too dusty an environment for painting, but he managed it.'"

Further discussion has been had earlier today regarding a feature in the coming months in the same publication, so hopefully maximising the benefit to the club and Jowetts everywhere.

Amy has got the scanner out, hopefully we'll be able to upload a high quality pic so everyone can read.

Jack.

Here is the article for those who haven't seen / aren't able to get Classic Car Weekly:

For a fuller-size version (easier to read), click here (the file's over 2Mb, so anyone on a slower connection be warned!): http://www.anticlockwise.com/~amy/galle ... op_BMP.jpg

I'm ridiculously chuffed to have won. Dad and Jack both looked rather pleased at the news when we heard on Thursday, and I phoned Chris, telling him we'd received a nice trophy for having won the 1950s category, and that we also had a rather fine trophy congratulating us on being overall winner... he sounded just a tad happy and uttered something like "you're chuffing kidding" whilst then hearing me berate Clements Snr for daring to go near my then dirty car with a chamois

I'll post more fully about the show / winning when I've recovered from collective exhaustion of an exhilarating non-stop weekend, catching what seems to be the 'NEC lurgy' and having trekked up to the North-East and back for work this week. I'm still a very happy - and slightly proud  - Jowetteer. Roll on warmer weather so Napoleon can get back to where he belongs - on the road!

Is that it? No other pages, no other information? Probably no budget to update site properly!
The old pages are still there but the home page just goes to this one.

Perhaps I should update jowett.org; but I am waiting for Amy and Jack's write up!!!!

Local coverage of the win: http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/news/8 ... mpetition/

I had a call from Classic Cars today too for some quotes for a story they'll be running on the show and the competition, presumably in the next edition.

I tried to post congratulations to all concerned last week without success. No doubt due to computer naeivety, but after a chat with Keith I think I,m now on net. So what can I say, having read the posts It has all been said, except to say that personally I am extremely chuffed that a car similar to the one I own, has won such a wonderful accolade. I say similar to mine as I do wonder where and how, they got all that shine. Much to my surpriseI had an unsolicited offer for my car, from a member of the viewing public at Blenheim last year, after Napoleon who knows what offers next year, If only I can get that shine!!!! Any tips Amy?

Brian - The shine on the paint comes against all odds - the paint came with car when Keith fist purchased it - hence in excess of 30 years old, the job was rushed due to lack of time, spayed in cold and dusty garage but you would not think it. At least I now have an apprentice in Amy for the polishing, the trick with all paintwork either new or old is to be methodical - when cutting back or polishing / waxing - always carryout the work one panel at time, then undertake that panel in small sections about one foot square. Never use a powered polisher - work by hand only and always in a front to back direction - never in circles - use t cut to cut back then thin the t cut with a little water and cut back again - take care near edges flutes and swaging lines - protect with masking tape if needed. when the panel is complete use a high quality wax like autoglym - again in a front to back direction - once waxed - wax each panel again - you will be amazed at the difference it makes - take care not let polish / wax residue build up on panel edges / under trim or chrome - cotton buds are ideal for completing this detail.

Reflecting on my last post and the unsolicited offer I received at the Blenheim show this summer, for the car that is, at my age I doubt their would be many bidders. I have often pondered on the matter of the market value of our vehicles, the Jupiter in particular in that they appear to be grossly undervalued in comparison to other sporting classics of the time. It is tempting to think how nice it would be if Jupiters changed hands at say 40k which is not unusual nowadays for many other makes. On the other hand this would result in our cars entering an exclusive financial group. Our cars are exclusive in their own right, they are interestingly different to their contempories, they are rare and are fun to drive, but strangely, affordable! At the moment whether you are a Banker or a Bricklayer you can own a Jowett. This results in a club such as ours that has tremendous personality devotion and interest, is run by competent people, and and as such is likely to survive for another hundred years. I think I have just kissed goodbye to a potential 31 1/2 k!!! but what the hell. I love my Jupiter to much.

Low resale value has a significant effect on the stimulus for rebuilding; but with the significant benefit that only dedicated restorers with a long term passion for the marque will entertain the idea. The insurance agreed value should be somewhere between the rebuild value and the last equivalent sale value.

There are cars where the sale value is above the rebuild value and those, like the Jowetts, which are below. However, that is changing and the market is realising that. We want the value to reflect the work put into the cars, yet make them still affordable and not so expensive that you dare not take them out and use them as cars. We certainly do not want to loose a damaged car because it is not cost effective to repair.
