Whilst doing some digitising I have come across the following photo which unfortunately has no note written on the back, but I do have some probable information about it.
I'm pretty sure the photo was taken at the Ohakea Motor Races and probably during during the 1950s. The driver of the Javelin might have been a well known professional photographer and business man from Palmerston North, Bruce Watt . . . . but there was another gent who raced Javelins too, who's name escapes me at this time . . . (I'm working on this and will update when I know the answer!)
The circuit utilised the concrete runways and taxiways of the RNZ Air Force base called Ohakea. A airfield that's in the centre of a well populated area and could draw on several cities within about 100 miles for it's partonage, so usually had a huge turnout. I'm searching for a diagram of the layout of the circuit used . . .
The Javelin, number 3, looks like it could be a PA (small headlights and one piece grill?), while the next car over is almost certainly a Austin A40*. Then is number 18 a Vauxhall?
* (Edited Tuesday 23, November 2010) I'm advised that judging by its size, the Austin is more likely to be a A70 . .
