Whilst awaiting the arrival of my leap into Jowett ownership I’ve been exploring the available information on the “breed”, both technical and historical. In Clark and Nankivell’s Complete History they make use of subheadings taken from Jowett advertising of the early 1920’s to mid 1930’s in Autocar and presumably other motoring publications. This was obviously well before the Advertising Standards Agency, e.g. “Jowetts never wear out; they are left to next of kin”…
The adverts were obviously well received, to quote from the book “Your advertisements in Autocar fill me with admiration, being subtle and very clever, it is my custom to look for them before reading any other section of that interesting journal”
Are there any of the original adverts available on the web so that we could appreciate them ourselves?
cheers
Geoff

He gave you a lift last week – now can you remember what kind of car that was? Probably not. If that car had been a Javelin you’d have noticed.

Let it download then point your mouse over the small box and a bigger one should appear.
There is a book by Noel Stokoe which has many more adverts in it, let me know if you are interested and I wi;ll look up the ISBN number or better still put you in touch with Noel.

Re: Jowett Advertising
Many thanks Alastair for mentioning my book "Jowett Advertising the Marque", I enjoyed doing this book as I love Jowett advertising, particularly pre-war examples. The book has a large number of them, but there are dozens more out there, as during the 1920's and '30's there was a new advert vertually every week!
