ACTION REQUIRED - Jowett in Classic Car Of The Year

Post by Jack »

All,

We are pleased to announce that the 1954 Jowett Jupiter that was entered in the Classic Car of The Year Competition has been shortlisted by the judges and now goes to a public vote.

This is something you can do online, literally write your name, your e-mail address, and then tick the "do I want to receive information from Bauer media" box, and you will have voted.

This is the only Jowett left in the competition that I can find. Please get behind it.

If you have a name and an e-mail address, you can vote. So please ask your friends, family, neighbours, to have a look, give the cars due consideration, and then make the appropriate tick next to the Jupiter please :D

I can't tell you how excited we are to have got the Jupiter to this point. Now all we need is mass action. We need everyone to get behind this.

Link is here: http://www.ccoty.co.uk/classic_car_voting.php?cat=2

Please do it today. Please ask your friends, please register anyone you know for an e-mail account so that they can vote. This will put a Jupiter in front of thousands as the best car of the 1950s, a message we would love to send to the Classic Car Community.

If anyone needs a hand voting, just ask. It really is a 2 minute job.

The full SC rebuild thread, warts, injuries, tears, laughter and all, is here, but don't read all that until you've voted for us: http://www.jowett.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1207

Just in case you'd forgotten the almost finished product:

Thanks in advance.

Dear all, Remember all the times that you looked up on the next installment of the 'Great SC Rebuild' then laughed & cried along with us ? - We - a very small dedicated team neglected all other things to bring this car back to the road and even after we had worked all day in the day job - then travelled home (or to the Clement car stable) in my case and worked until the early hours on the project to return home to bring the forum upto date (just look at the posting times on some of the updates) !! - all we request in return is your vote - the story of Jack pircing his nipple with the rivet gun is worth a vote alone !

Thanks from all at 'Team SC'

You may note the times are UTC; not BST. So towards May they were one hour later than posted. Our time was not governed by watches or indeed stomachs ; as Jenny often complained when we came in for a quick bite after 10pm, with dinner "bug**red" as she so elonquently put it in her Geordie dialect.

Note, on close inspection of the competition rules, it is simply down to which, of all the cars, gets the most votes online. The overall winner is decided from a public vote, not by concours judges or anyone else.

So this means that literally our fate is in our hands. Get online. Get friends online. Ask your colleagues at work to follow a link when they get home. Contact an old friend - I spent 2.5 hrs this evening driving home from Sheffield ringing through my phone book, from A to Z. I called friends I'd not spoken to in months, what a great opportunity to catch up, ask them to sit in front of the computer while I talk them through exactly what they have to do to vote, and how impressed they were with the sight of a Jowett in the sunshine and what was achieved in such short time.

Please go the extra mile on this one. This is a great chance for a Jowett to go down in the records as the Classic Car of the Year 2010. And next year there will be another. Then another. We will keep putting members cars forward, keep getting them on the podium at the NEC, so everyone can see the cars we love.

Don't wait for a convenient time. Go and do it. Ask others to do it. Phone other members you know and make sure they've seen what we are doing and how well the entry has gone.

I can live with second place if I know we have done everything we can do. Let's make sure we don't miss a great chance for our cars to be known by everyone in the classic car community as the best of the best.

We'll be doing better than that - we will be in contact with all local (and not so local) press to spread the word.

We are now getting votes from some of the most unlikely places, but please keep on to anyone with any connection to Jowetts to support this.

Competition runs until 8th Oct, so lots of time for other people to catch us up - please vote today, and get others to do the same.

Well, we're doing quite well with publicity with both the local newspapers picking up the story.

The Watford Observer has this online: http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/news/8 ... mpetition/

and the Hemel Gazette has put it in the paper this week (not online (yet?) that I can see, so scanned):

Keep the votes coming - I'd love to get to the NEC for the Jowett Centenary :D

Great work Keith. Hopefully life can go back to normal on the 8th Oct when the voting closes - unless we win the category that is!

Apparently my father, with his foot up due to achilles operation last week, has been sat with the phone on his chair just calling everyone he has in his address book and asking them to vote. He's also half way through the jigsaw from the centenary rally - could have a new member by the end of the year at this rate.

One thing for anyone who is active on Facebook and similar, please add to your status a link to the site, and ask your friends to vote - the power of social networking may be the difference between winning and losing this competition.

Dear Each of You,

The vote has been cast! Also votes in other categories. However, the selection for the 1970s was awful. How can anyone be enthused by such as Toyota High Ace, Honda Civic and Austin Kimberley? I suppose, residing here in Oz, the Kimmie should hve received my vote. However it failed to arouse any enthusiasm. A Leyland P76 with V8 power may have stirred something.

Surprised that there was no Rover P6B listed?

Good luck with the quest, Amy,

Mike Allfrey.

Voting closing soon - 6 days and counting!

Post by Amy »

Dear all,

The voting for the competition is still open, but only for another 6 days!! The voting closes on Friday 8th October.

Could I ask each of you to remind all your friends about the competition and ask them to vote if they haven't already... for those of you on facebook, we have a group here: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=149905561703287

Once again, thank you all for your support! Now I'm off to the garage to measure up for carpets and decide on the leather for the seat and door trim :)
