Pistons for a 7HP

Post by AlanBartlett »

I'm looking for a set of pistons for a 7hp, I was speaking to Geoff wills yesterday and he thinks that they might be able to get or make some over in Australia or New Zealand, As I think Tony G, had some made, does anyone from over there know of the place or a website contact?

Chris/Alan - I have 8hp std pistons in my '35 'spare' engine - the bores have been taken out to just over +060". I have the exact size somewhere - will look for it and post it later this week. No other 'differences'.

It was 3.024 but this should be re-checked

Alan et al.

I seem to remember that Roy Braddock told me that 60 thou oversize 7hp pistons could be used in standard 8hp bores. Perhaps George can vouch for this.

Alan. Why are you still having problems? IP says you've contacted him several times so you should be sorted by now.

Tony.

Is there anything stopping me putting my 8hp std pistons in my 7hp pot? The size of piston which came out that pot are fractionally smaller than the 8hp std pistons, don't have figures on me. Have emailed George Garside and will put his replys up here for reference later on...

Hi Alan.

The first Jowett activity of the year for me ! Have just been measuring Arabella for wiring lengths for the Flashing Indicators I have fitted.

I have 8hp std pistons in my 'spare' 7hp engine. Bores were taken out to, I believe from memory, 3.032" (by IP's 'boring' man).
Std 7HP are 2.9695". Std 8hp are 3.032". 3.032" is 2.9695 +063" so you need your 7hp pots taken out to +063". Worn +060"'s are probably at that anyway !

I do not recall Ian saying any other mod had to be done to the 8hp pistons but this should be double checked as obviously should the above measurements
