Jupiters Enter Classic Car of the Year

Heads up on a couple of Jowetts which have gone to the effort of being entered in the Classic Car of the Year, which is being run by Practical Classics, Classic Cars and Classic Car Weekly.

Couple of photos to whet the appetite, there will be an intial shortlist of cars from each decade (apparently 10 cars from each decade will go through) for a public vote.

First one entered, not sure who the owner is, reg no FHS 338 - this looks like a really tidy car:

All entries include 250 words to explain the story behind the car and why it should be considered, these hopefully will be published with the photos for public judging.

This means two things. Number one, there aren't that many 1950s cars entered, so hopefully for Jupiters everywhere we will get at least one car through, and number two we are going to be calling on all of you to vote, ask your friends and families to vote, and to show the public that Jowetts are some of the greatest cars ever made.

All the category winners will have their cars on display at the NEC motor show later in the year, and there will be an overall winner decided before that date.

Please follow this thread for further instruction, we will try and publicise through the Joweteer to gain maximum support as well, but not sure whether voting will be restricted to online only, so members may have to help other members who are not online or who don't have access to a computer.

For everyone else out there who hasn't entered, today is the deadline. Upload three photos, write 250 words, and get your car on show for the classic car fans out there, even if we got half a dozen cars entered, it would send a very strong message to the above magazines that we are here, active, and in it to win it - and supporting their competition after all!

Prizes include free classic car insurance, a weekend stay for the NEC motor show, motor show tickets, and lots of other stuff.

Worth noting there are currently approx 250 cars entered online across all categories, the majority of which are from the 60s, 70s and 80s. There's also some prewar and 40s cars (very very few) so we should be in with a shout. There are also postal entries, but I wouldn't expect there's more than 50 of those, nobody uses the post any more So assuming twice as many cars in the 70s and 80s (which the photos online would support) then we have approx 20-30 cars to compete with.

That also means that if you have a Jowett there is every chance you will be shortlisted even if you chucked 3 photos on there and wrote "I like my car. It is shiny. It is a Jowet xxxxxxx. I hope you like it too." - and that could mean free stuff for you, and you never know, you might just win a load of goodies.

It would also be really good for our visibility with the above magazines, who would have to take note of 10 entries from the Jowett Car Club in various categories.

In the crisis point image - I can be seen rubbing my thumb and forefinger together - this in Yorkshire terms is indicating to Keith how much money I am going to charge if he wants the bodywork complete and painted to such short deadlines - there is an 'not for publication' image that follows this one where Keith can be seen responding to my original hand gesture. 'Team SC - always good for a laugh'

What needs to be explained in this time line, is that we were all working normal days, commuting and fitting in other committments leaving only the hours between 20:00hrs and 01:00 hrs during the week and the weekends to fit such work in. No work was farmed out to 'professionals'.

It always amazes me how much a sense of achievment guys loose with cheque book rebuilds.

We are aleady planning on improving the workshop so that we do not struggle so much with our environmental conditions.
