Missing topics

Post by Chris Spencer »

JowettTalk was down overnight on Friday and restored to service Saturday afternoon - however it would appear that least 2 - 3 topics have gone AWOL since the service returned - Keith can you shed any light ??

At the moment no light can be shed. I suspect the server was restored from an old back up. I will investigate.
If anyone knows what was missing then I may be able to trace.

Changes made on 5th July to Gallery were lost and I have reapplied. So Gallery is working again. So please check to see if you have 'lost' anything as the last change showing was on 2nd July. It maybe the host company restored from the wrong back up when recovering the site on Saturday. I have asked them but no response yet. :x

The "Fastest Jowett" topic is missing, possibly others.

It appears that eveything from about 4th July (something significant about that date) until 10th July has gone missing. I have a daily back up service, but since it has taken a couple of days to detect this I may need to restore to 10th July and then replay significant posts up until today.

Not my fault I was nowhere near the site on Friday or Saturday!!!

Here is the error log from the gallery which clearly shows no activity since 4 July till 10th when I know there was as I fixed the fault on the 5th.
Sat 10 Jul 2010 16:44:50 CDT Gallery Error Link 60.234.149.204
Sun 04 Jul 2010 16:31:07 CDT Gallery Error Link 88.105.158.107

Please refrain from putting new info into the Gallery as It will be easier to resore if you do not.

I have had an unacceptable reply from the hosting company. Who allege they restored a back up from 5/6 July which is untrue as changes made on 5th are not included. The site I was told went down on Friday (exactly when I do not know) but it was after lunchtime. It came back up on Saturday evening.

Although I am paying for daily back-up, this does not seem to have been done. So watch this space!
Unfortunately I have not taken a recent back up because I was paying someone else to do it.
Needless to say, I have taken a couple today.

Looks like we have lost all the posts from 5th to 9th July. Sorry guys. It will not happen again. I am persuing the hosting company at a technical and commercial level. I am also looking into frequent site replication techology between jowett.org and jowett.net. Currently backups are at home but with well over 1GB it takes some time.
