Sanding attachments for drill - flap wheels?

Post by Amy »

I need your help in finding what I'm after (or possibly in disabusing me of the idea that they exist..!).

I'm currently sanding the SC. As you will know, they are very curvy, with lots of intricate little corners, which are making my life rather tricky.

I have at my disposal a power sander, a sander attachment for the air compressor, a sanding mouse, and a good old block and sandpaper.

Dad also dug out of his drawer at the weekend some attachments for the drill, similar to this: http://www.draper.co.uk/catalogue/Pagesource/p546.pdf (top left hand item). They are just the ticket as they get into the corners and curves, but I need a range of them.

So, I want to know if they come in different shapes, sizes and grades, because if they do, that's what I need. I've been into several different hardware shops and not found anything other than ones like the one in the picture.

Does anyone know where I might find them / if they exist?

Thanks very much!
Amy.

Sanding an old car back that may still have paint 30 or 40 yrs + old can turn into a nightmare when it comes to painting...
Old paints react bad to new paints...
fty ups while painting and issues of crazy cracking over a couple yrs

When I did the camaro, I tryed paint stripers, sanding alsorts of stiff
Ay the end of the day I put a grinder with a 40 grit sanding disc thru the laters of paint till could just see hints of steel
Then took it off to be media blasted (DO NOT SAND BLAST a car)
This was not a full restore but a routine 9 yr outside body refurnish, so rubbers windows interior etc where not removed..bumbers/lights where.

Putting the disk sander thru the paint before media blasting saved several $100 to get media blasted.
Within 20 minutes of media blasted it was then sealed with epoxy...with any areas of old war damage or rust left with just over spray
Never leave exposed steel for more than 20 mins after a repair.

If I wa to sand the paint back to metal again I would be using a 12" grinder and sanding disc, leaving not a single speck of old paint.
Seal with expoxy,
repair any damage, epoxy the areas,
light sand,
a good coat of 2 pot high build
Block
Repeat 2 times is usually all thats required
3 coats Colour and clear 2 coats
Depeding on how well the clear has been laid, block back cut and polish.
My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'

Sanding and more sanding

Amy - In relation to this I need to talk to your dad - and I know that time is against us but I have an idea that will save some time and give a far better quaility paint finish to the car. Looks like I am available Saturday as Sharon is away on business - (I think you are away too) but Keith is about ? (I'll give him a call)

In the meantime try larger branches of B&Q for your flap wheels
