Hi Tony and Ian,

The above photo was taken quickly with the web camera ive got on the computer, as I dont have a scanner, the orginal is much clearer I have to admit. And from the period white colour I guess it was taken decades ago. I used it as I didnt have the camera out there with me at the time.

But I'll get some recent photos put up soon, but you can definitely see the difference, as I thought I think that photo came about after the car came out of storage in the mid 60's

Catastrophic fire? No I didn't hear of it what happened?

Ive got a load more pictures too I shall post them up. Also accompanied by a rather comical video of manovering it back into the garage. One for "You've been framed" there.

Well as for wakefield, I'm aiming to have the car back on the road by April, thats only a month and 2 weeks away, in that space of time Ive got to rehang the doors, finish the wiring, tidying it all up, not a re wire. Powdercoat and new tyres for the wheels and get the engine back in and runnning. But fingers crossed and every free moment I hope to be there.

As for the table for the body, yes everything worked out fine and it held the body there for several months quite happily. As for the next project I'm currently building a giant trolley to put the car on whilst I get the wheels powder coated. So I can still work on it and move it around. I know most people say just use axle stands but the problem is again the space. Pictures to follow....

Alan

I lent Mike Kavanagh four rather rubbishy pre-war wheels, no tyres or tubes so that he could move his recently-acquired short saloon chassis around in his garage.

Is there any-one near you that could do the same? One from each of 4 people would suffice. Wouldn't matter if they had kna****d tyres on them. It would be much easier.

Hi Tony.
Glad you mentioned the fuel pipe - it was on the car when bought and I am conscious of it's non-originality. Hadn't thought of the fire risk !
I have 5/16 o/d copper pipe but not the end fittings for the carb and the pump - not sure of the thread type/size to replace whats there now at each end of the plastic pipe - can you help with the type/size ?

I'm just a wee bit ahead of you Alan - just got the rad and cowl back from IP so they are back on. Wings, running boards & front cowl also now refitted. Bonnett's been a bit of a bu**er since the sides are not original and are a poor fit but it's there for now. Wiring under the dash is a bit of a nightmare but it'l have to do till next winter. ( I have the junction box Tony referred to but there was no wiring through it !) Carpet is awaiting edging and hood frame is away in Edinburgh for re-covering - hope to get it back for May !. Major pre-MOT jobs left are to adjust the handbrake travel and put water in the rad ! Oh, and PRAY that the (temporary) recon replacement engine doesn't let me down AND that she passes her MOT !

Wiring

Post by Tony Fearn »

Hello Ian.

I suppose you have the wiring diagram, but if not, and for the benefit of others here it is.

Image

There's also a 1935 wiring diagram which doesn't seem to be in' My Scans' at the moment, so I can't attach it here.

If you need it, let me know.

Thanks Tony. Yes, I have it - it's a time issue before the rally, I'm afraid so it's going to be a next winter job - there are several of them in the queue !

This whole project was going to be a summer job while i was off the road, but then spanned into winter and now the new year. Ha

Does any know any recommenations of tyres? Lots of Brands out there, I'm currently running Production Insa's on the front and Exchelsiors on the back all are just and just with in the legal 2mm limit. Does any one know which ones the spares department are offering?

Reference Tony's comment on the plastic fuel pipe across the engine, I have removed it.

I have the fittings for a metal pipe to my AC type 'B' pump but am stuck at the carb end - see pics.

Does anyone know what I need or possibly have spares ?

Worst case, I will install metal pipe with just an inch of plastic at the carb endImage

Plastic pipe replaced - just need to get my hands on a straight outlet union then I can run the pipe as per original. At least I'm mobile again so can think about the MOTImage

After a successful weekend of tidying up my electrics, I now have quite a tidy group of wires, no more maze of spaghetti. I also have 80% of the electrical things working now. On that note I have a question about the sender unit and fuel guage, does any one have any pictures of a sender unit.

As I've lost a bit which was spung on the end of rod which slides up and down the coil to make it work.

I'm also stumped as to how the guage actually as when I touch it across the battery terminals it goes beyond empty, I would have thought it would go across to full, being no resistance as it were from the earthed sender unit depending on how full the tank was. Can anybody help?

Presumably it is nothing like this?

Note that I modified the guage so that it now reads correctly. You can adjust the max and ramp up by tweaking the coils in it.

Unfortunatly not Keith, but the sender in those pictures are identical to ones used on MG TCs and like you say also morris minor, what size are the tanks are in the Jupiter. If its a simlilar gallon size to my 6 then I may subsitute it for now.
