Photos becoming a little red cross.

Post by Tony Fearn »

Many of the photos I've put in my posts now appear as a little red cross in a box on the LHS of the page when I look at the posts again.

Why is this please?

How do I see what photos I've posted when this occurs?

Tony.

The little red cross that won't save your life

Post by Alastair Gregg »

It means that the photo you once had in that location is no longer in the corresponding part of the server. To put it in motor speak you and I rely upon the fact that the clutches on our respective Jowetts are where we left them. We would know by trying to drive the car that something was wrong, if they were not in place. However the little red cross says "somebody nicked my picture and now I cannot find it ". As to the whereabouts of the pictures, our webmaster only knows.

red crosses

Post by msuemason »

The red cross is where the stamp would be, if you were to be sending a snail mail!

My favourite trick is to tidy up my computer screen (desktop) and move photos around into other folders. For example, when doing the www.jowett.wordpress.com blog, I have created a folder on my desktop (screen) called Blog, and I save all the photos I need to upload to the jowett wordpress blog into that.

The 'path' for this folder is something like C:\Documents and Settings\Sue\Desktop\Blog\javelin.jpg

The last bit of the path is the name of the specific individual photo: javelin.jpg

Now when I am tidying up, if I drag and drop that photo (javelin.jpg) into another folder for example C:\Documents and Settings\Sue\Cars\javelin.jpg and then go and look at the place I expect the photo to be, there will be a red cross as the computer isn't clever enough (yet) to trace where I have tidied it up (to)

Now where have I left my spectacles?!

Where are my Glasses

Post by Alastair Gregg »

Wearing elusive glasses is an issue I too suffer from. They seem to migrate to the top of my head and hide! Good place to start the search.

Well, thanks for all that.

It was nice of both of you to let me know that my photos are in cyber space.

I wonder if anyone else looking at my posts in real time with pictures attached can still see them.

If not, then I don't think I'll bother with photos in the future.

See you in Wakefield in May?

Tony.

P.S. Don't tell Hilary, but I've just noticed that it's 'tomorrow' so it's my 42nd wedding anniversary.

Lacking in Photographs

Post by Alastair Gregg »

Hello Tony,

I checked out your pictures of Sarah Jane in "Pre War", sadly no pictures. Please don't give up putting them there. If we talk to Keith nicely, they are just temporarily mislaid and he will know where they are and can put them back in the relevant place.

Tony please tell me which posts and I will investigate. The server has been updated recently and it may be just because it was busy.

Hello Keith.

I did write a PM and it's below, but there's a distinct possibility that I sent it to myself rather than to you. -- OOPS

I've just looked again at the topic with photos that are no longer there and it is within the "Sarah Jane" post of 18th March 2008 in the Pre-war section.

In retrospect, the word 'many' was rather ambitious as other posts I've done with attached photos seem to be ok.

Thanks for the reply.

Tony.

Should now be OK. Any more?

You could have fixed yourself, I think, by editing the post and changing the links from www.jowett.org to keithclements.co.uk.

This was necessary when I had to move the site because of poor performance on the host a few months ago.

I have noticed that some pages sometimes still display red crosses, and this is because the current website may not be fast enough for your browser. Refreshing the page (F5 or Ctrl+F5) usullay fixes.
