Left hand drive Bradfords

I was recently talking to some one about Jowetts, and he said that his father remembered seeing some Bradfords in Vancouver (British Columbia). Did Jowetts make LHD Bradfords, and did any come to Canada?

They certainly did and there is one in Canada today. You could do me a favour and contact Roland Mallais [mallaisr@nbnet.nb.ca] for an update. He speaks mainly French so it is a little difficult!!

I have E mailed Rolland, but in English, as my French is so rusty. I can figure out rough translations from French, but the other way is nearly impossibel.

I have received a reply today, in English, from Roland Mallais as follows:

"Hello!
I am the owner of an auto Bradford.
That car in not licence or plate but in future it will be for sure.
I am living in the province of New-Brunswick, Canada.
I am looking for the indicators for that car. Mine are not in good shape Very truly yours Roland"

He is probably closer to me than you then Robin!
Does he mean indicators or trafficators (those little arms that raise on the side of the car)

He is most probably closer to you. I was in the Gaspe, just north of New Brunswick, and it took 12 hours to fly home. He has sent a picture to me and it looks very smart. It is LHD. I would guess that he means the trafficators as my car also has them. One of mine works, but doesn't drop down easily. The other doesn't do anything.

Photography is not a skill then!

Need to know if it is mechanism or plastic yelllow lens that is required. Usually with some care and attention with WD40 sticky arms will work.

Getting traficators to work..
1st, the mechanicals out of most british cars are the same unit,morris, rover etc
Dont thry to get to work in car...bench them
Check the wire that goes over the top od the coil, and check its insulation
Check the bottom adjust/stop point
put a ohm meter over the coil.
Check no binding on the coil piston.
If u can get a slightest movement out of it, the ods are iy will work
When reinstalling allign up with the body exactly right..the slightest runb with cause it not to actuate or return correct.

When testing do not leave the current on to long or keep testing without a break...the coil warms up and the action becomes weaker

I believe that Roland's Bradford is 6v, which is where the rub is. 6v semaphores are not readily available. I do have one spare but it is the SF80 type (I believe) like the Morris Minor ones. I have been looking for another for Roland for a while. Anyone got one???

If you put an ohm acroos the coil, is there actually a difference between the 6 v and 12v it could very well just be the bulb
And if there is a dirence, why not put a ballist resistor in the circuit?

The armature coils are different between 6v and 12v. if you run a 6v one on 12v they burn out!

Yes, but if you run a 12v on a 6v supply your trafficator will need an injection of Viagra!
