Problem with picture upload.

Post by Forumadmin »

Seems we have a problem. Investigating. But off to Cricket ODI tomorrow and then Rugby at Twickers on Saturday. I am leading the team with supporters into the ground with my drumming!

Found a problem with Leo's last post which may have stopped some of you seeing the Great SC rebuild post. Leo had pointers to an ftp site in the img statements.

This may have been caused because Leo was having problems with uploading images. Has anybody else?

In the last 3 or 4 days...thu find this morning (now)
Check the size of image leo uploads from....often they havnt been edited down and are huge...when uploaded imagemajic, or what ever the server uses can hang on editing down for the thumb nails etc...then if the user thinks it hangs and trys again...compoind the situation
On the server, task manager will show a heap of cmd services running.
Can either closes these down 1 by one
or reboot the server,
Or stop stard apache.

Have you a MAC?

Post by Forumadmin »

Keith,

Thanks very much for your patient help, last night (UK)/this morning(NZ).

After signing off with you I continued our endeavours by eliminating the Mac resizing application (RapidoResizer) from the "equation" (although I've been using it for over a year without apparent problems).

I used the so called ultimate app Photoshop to resize another original, straight from the camera file, to 450 x 600 pixels (396 kb). I also re-used the original file number but added a underscore and S to the file name (ie. P7023139_S.jpg).

I then went through the now familiar uploading to the "editing of the post" process, but it once again stuck at the "File size exceeds limit" message . . . . seems there's something wrong with my computer or your machine doesn't like pre-resized files . . . or something else is upsetting the system/s?? I'm at a complete loss . . .

Would it be an idea if we ask someone else to add a pic by editing to one of their posts? . . . just as a trial using another computer to upload . . . I might boot up the Windows PC this evening and repeat the exercise . . .

Attached is the image file in the condition that I tried uploading.

This file does cause the problem. So can someone else with a Mac please try resizing an image and uplaoding to JowettTalk.

I cant get it to happen on my server from the internal network unless the pic is way over 5 meg...So it could be a combination file size, a user with a slow connection, load on the server, and apache or the browser timing out.

What I use to 'notify me, is I run a access.log program permently from another machine on the LAN...when the server locks, this displays a error message reading the log.
