The weather was nice, sun shining, and the rally about 70 miles from Helsinki to a small town called Hyvinkaa. Note the different things combined in the same sentence to cause confusion.
The Finnish veteran car rallies are a bit different than UK. Jowett rallies.
The cars drive the route according to plans, and there are some places along the route, where the drivers or passengers or both have to do something (usually funny), answer to questions concerning mostly something about vehicles, drive some difficult tracks (forwards, backwards, sideways) to score points.
The route is something like the Jowett Rally's scenic one; mainly small and winding roads.
At the evening party there are the usual boring speeches and the prize-giving. The winner is, of course, the car and the passengers and the driver who has the highest score.
The rally has also some different classes, cars made before some year, woman drivers (eeeek !), utility vehicles, etc...
Of course there is also a competition of the outfits (clothing) and the vehicle - they sometimes have to check even the seamed stockings and suspenders to find out the most elegant combination of the people and the car.
And still more to come: the best restored vehicle of the year - a really demanding competition, where every bolt and nut is inspected by several judges.
According to usually reliable unofficial sources we won our class: "the 1951 -made English brown 2-cylinder lorries" - hooray for the Jowetts
We did not stay for the evening, but went back to Maikki's and had a sauna-bath instead.
Me and my tummy.
T-Ford coach or an express bus
everyone wants to see under the hood / bonnet. The small red one has a wankel-engine in the rear
This one has been seen in the UK a few times
My Old Flame - I can't even remember her name ( by Spike Jones) with the original registration number from 1951
My first one, now completely re-restored by my good friend.
