Not sure if is related to this issue but....
When I get the 'page not found error', or any other come to that, I changed the URL in the address box between www.jowett.org and jowett.org. So far doing that has retreived the page correctly.

Please can you try this and let me know the results.

I have had problems in the past with Streamline. net (that is who we are talking about isn't it?). Simply not doing what it's supposed to do. I left them in the end.

I thought about that a befoe, thinking it maybe a .htaccees or httpd.conf issue...tried it..yes some times it works other times no...and discounted the issue.
Doing so will log you out, that is normal
The posting notification are in http://www.jowett format If ones favourites is http:// jowett format and one uses both one will get logged out as one swaps between the 2...this is normal as it depends how the Admin CP is config for cookies.
The issue was highlighted back in the early days with the link from the home page...that was fixed ages ago.

No the issue doesnt lay there or in phpbb config....Im 99% sure it is the host server ...they have something weird going on, and I get the strong inmpression it is beyond their techies.
It usually happens when some techie does something fancy and minor on the servers, not fully understanding all the implocations...then a new guy comes along, and all due respect to him, knows something is wrong but cant find the obscure setting....Have been in this situation a couple times over the yrs...can take days/weeks /months then usually one finds it by accident.

Edit: hey the site is running realy crisp today...fast load, no errors Image

Hi IT Team.

In the last couple of months I've had, after logging on and clicking "View posts since last visit", the usual message that one normally gets when there has been no new posts (ie, "No topics or posts met your search criteria") . . this happens every time . . but there are, very often, one or more new posts if one actually peruses the dates in the main indexes "Last post" column!

Is anyone else having this problem?

I don't think it's coming from this machine . . . . but I could be wrong!

 But, then I do remember years ago (when I was a teenager perhaps!) for a moment I thought I was wrong about something . . but very shortly after I realised I was mistaken   Ha haa!

Seriously though, I don't have this occur with any other forums I subscribe to . . . Any thoughts??

Regards, Leo

Jowett Talk

Post by Robin Fairservice »

I have problems nearly every day with being told that I am not connected to the Internet etc. This at sign on, check unread messages, and when trying to see individual messages.

I also subscribe to "The Nostalgia Forum" which has many more threads, far more viewers and messages each day, without ever having a problem. I feel sorry for Keith trying to keep Jowett Talk going, so suggest that he looks at the Autosport.com site who host TNF and other Forums.

Leos issue no never had that....

Yes...and as a server and web admistrator for some 14 yrs now, it is real frusrating on a personal basis...and extremely time consuming digging thru settings , configurations, logs etc
Unless one is an admin no one has any idea of the time and frustration...

I I maybe out of order here, but feel jowett uk need to budget for a good host... and give Keith a break...even swapping data bases etc etc over to a new host is w huge job..espec when one finds so much is incompatable with their software, in partular gallery version.
