Radio car

Post by Forumadmin »

Hello

I am helping the widow of the late Jim Watkinson who owned Jowetts in the past.
Can you throw any light on the two pictures in the attachment?

I was particularly wondering about the radio set in the photo, even for its time (early 1920's?) it seems very complex - and there is no aerial. Perhaps they used the bodywork as an aerial? I think I can identity the various components - receiver, tuner, amplifier, etc

If its of interest to you and your membership, I would be happy to send the pictures to you.

Many thanks, Adrian Jefferies (Triumph TR4 in bits)

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Jim Watkinson, albeit not surprised at this date. He was an excellent fellow and supporter of the JCC Southern Section who organized several meetings in the late 60's - early 70's in the New Forest area. For a while, his equally enthusiastic wife [whose name has momentarily slipped my mind] drove a vintage Lea Francis with some verve. I enjoyed their friendly enthusiasm.

This photo was probably taken on the Titsey run in 1923 where a demonstration of Marconi wireless was performed. See this article.

Philip,
Jim's widow is Pat.

Adrian is going to see if she remembers more information on Jowetts.

Adrian has sent me the high quality original pictures. Click on the thumbnail for HD. I may be able to process to get rid of the cracking.
