Jowett Arrow

Post by AlanBartlett »

I was wondering if anyone had anymore information on the Jowett Arrow, I've heard to the Austin Arrow, but not the Jowett one. A bit of an internet delve has turned up a few snaps of the brochure. A few replicas, along with a photo from the AutoCar.

Was it a mongrel?
It may have been a one-off rebody of a Jowett by Arrow Coachworks , based in Hanwell, London, who produced various sporting body styles for the Austin 7 chassis.
Links to that brochure would be useful.
Rather crude redacting of the people in the photo.

I've no idea. I've seen a few Austin Arrows. I've also seen a brochure advertising the Arrow bodied Jowett. Further internet searches, a few Standard based Arrows have been saved along with a replica Wolseley. Would make for an interesting replica build.

It may simply be a brochure and no body was actually made.

Hi Alan.
It shouldn't be too much of a challenge. You will be able to scale up the photo in the brochure.
It seems like an easy build body-wise, especially as it's fabric covered.
If I can do it with a replica Flying Fox, with your contacts and workplace tooling I'm sure you can do it.
At least you now have a chassis.

A replica Morris Minor Arrow has been built and is in active use. It is a pretty little car.

Arrow made a range of models, open and closed and listed many of the popular light car chassis of the day.

There is a lot of information about Arrow/Crompton on the Pre War Minor Network web site and you will also find pictures of the Minor Arrow Replica there as well.

Well a starting point thanks to Tony, I do now have a chassis to have a go! I've also got various axles and bits to start building a rolling chassis, along with a radiator and shell. I wonder what the chances of finding some earlier wheels would be.

Who knows maybe before I'm 40 in a couple of years time!
