Early pre-war chassis for sale.

Post by Tony Fearn »

For some years now I have had a bare pre-war chassis stood on its side in my garage. I'm 81 now, and I'm never going to do anything with it at my stage in life.
As the Rally this year (2025) is going to be in Clayton le Moors at the Mercure Dunkenhalgh hotel, which is around one and a half miles from my house (and rented garage), I wondered if someone, preferably with a trailer, would be interested in giving me £75 for it, and take it away.

Some years ago I bought a chassis and logbook from my friend George Nicholson in Kendal. It had been a 1933 long saloon, but as some of you will know, I built it up and made a Flying Fox body for her over quite a number of years, and the result was 'Sarah Jane' registered BV2121, as seen below.

Perhaps someone will have a go at it.

The dimensions of the bare chassis are:-
Length 136" (346 cm.)
Widest point 34 1/2" (88 cm.).

The chassis consists of the ladder sides, a cross-tube with radiator mounting brackets at the front, another inverted U-shaped tube at the site of the shackle bolts at the front of the rear springs (which are not present), and a rear cross-tube that takes the exhaust pipe stay.
There are holes drilled in both ladder sides that take rivets for the under slung battery arrangement. This is prior to 1934 when I believe the battery box was put under the bonnet. Further to this, the front end of the front springs are fixed, with the shackles to the rear.

The measurements are approximate.

My details are in the membership booklet should anyone be interested.

Tony.
