Engine out
I need to take the engine out of my Jupiter Nickri special to do some work. I am sure I will be asking for advice and help, but initially, is it possible to use a commercially available engine stand as an alternative to fabricating the one in the Autobooks manual? Something like this?

Re: Engine out
You are going to struggle with anything like that with a boxer engine essentially if the crankcases need to be parted - much better to just have a sturdy workbench and some timber blocks to support either side of the crankcases as you disassemble / reassemble the engine - you can always fit braked wheeled casters to the bench if you require mobility within the garage / workshop

Re: Engine out
I made a very good engine stand using a typical example as you are indicating. I did a write up on it which is in my Gallery on this site with drawings and a description, back in circa 2001. Also, I used it in the engine rebuild article that is also on JowettTalk. It worked well, and the ability to rotate the engine to any angle was very advantageous. and made it easy to work on the engine.
Keith should be able to provide the links to both articles.

Thanks Philip. I will hunt for your gallery and the rebuild article. It is 60 years since I last did an engine rebuild - and that was on a side valve straight 4,, so I might need to refresh and relearn a few things.

There is an HTML version more suitable for reading on a computer but note this is currently the 2007 revision rather than the 2017, not that there was much change just a lot more added. The link above has been updated for the 2024 version. The Html version will be updated soon when I get time.

Re: Engine out
I thought that I had done a write-up on my Jowett engine stand back in circa 2002, but I can't find it, so I have created a new 6-page document with drawings and photos which you may find helpful. If anyone in the US wants to borrow it, let me know.
