Could someone take a look at the attached file and tell me if my pintle valve is as it should be please?
I've got hesitation when I open the throttle, otherwise car runs fine so cleaning the pintle valve was suggested.
Seems weird to me, just when you want the air to stop going from the engine into the carbs to give you a nice rich mixture on acceleration the valve is wide open!

Perhaps you have read this topic.

It is worth checking the pipe going to the balance pipe inside the tappet cover and under the oil filter and the compression union for leaks. If it is leaking you get poor carburation.

Re: pintle valve
Thanks Keith, useful stuff. We smoke tested the carbs in the week and apart from a little smoke through the pintle valve into the oil filler pipe the only place to see smoke was from where the float bowl meets the carburettor body, from both carbs. Not having a gasket there seems a little odd. Anyway I loosened the securing bolts and pushed the float bowls against the carb bodies while tightening the bolts to get as a good a seal as possible.

Re: pintle valve
There should be a paper gasket between body and chamber. It is in the carb rebuild kit.

Re: pintle valve
Hi Liphookjavelin10,
Yes, from the attached photo, your pintle valve looks like it has all ihe right bits! The only bits that wear are the faces of the 'top hat' bit and the mating ground surface of the bottom nut. You might wish to clean these up on a stone, if they look worn and 'hammered'.
Also, I guess the spring might be a little tired. There used to be a lot of discussion about these valves and owners were experimenting with using tougher springs or even chopping a couple of coils off to make them weaker. My advice is to keep them original, clean and free from obvious high spots on the mating surfaces.
They are used on other vehicles ( Vauxhall, I believe? ), so if JCS haven't got them in stock, it might be worth searching the internet?
All the best,
David
