Depends on the state. In WA you are required to belong to a club who have responsibility for testing. In Vic it is basically the same as here unless you go on arranged events.

G'dday From Super Sunny Victoria,

Like Queensland, we are devoted car maintainers and the convict streak has developed so much honesty it is unbelievable!

In Victoria there is only a road worthiness check at time of a vehicle's sale new or old. Using this system, about a third of the State's vehicle fleet is tested each year. That figure is a few years old now and the Koreans may have fouled it up with their cheap imports. Why buy a good second hand car when you can get a new Kiundai with three years warranty for less?

On the club scene, we have a club organised safety check once a year for the local club permit scheme. Some clubs are now demanding that their members that are on the scheme, get an annual roadworthy test done. This tends to negate the cost savings for hobby vehicles and, in most cases, full registration could be a cheaper option. Windscreen, headlamp, and tail lamp replacement. A tiny stone chip on a headlamp lens, or a small scuff mark on a rear lamp lens renders a car unroadworthy. Who can prove that an accident was caused by a tiny scuff mark on a rear lamp lens? Nuff said!

Regards to all -- we'll think of you while we are having A Golden Experience in Bendigo!
